The city hadn't been the same since the soldiers arrived. On the last train out of town a sudden braking caught the passengers off guard. Black uniformed officials appeared in the carriage ushering in a nervous silence that fell on those on board. Silent prayers were whispered from the trembling lips of terrified passengers with the secret hope that disaster would fall on someone else's head. A baby cried in the back and was silenced. His mother wept in her hands at what she had done.
