PAGE 1, 5 PANELS:

Panel 1: INT. JACK'S OFFICE - DAY

Jack and Wallace chat. Wallace appears disingenuous.

JACK

And whatever happened to that... was it "Chase"... or "Kyle"... the smart kid?

WALLACE

Yes, Skyler... uh, I think that he was transferred.

JACK

To where?

Panel 2.

WALLACE

I'm pretty sure that they said R and D. Don't really know for sure, just that he has nothing to do with us anymore.

JACK

Oh, all right. I guess that's a good thing.

Panel 3.

WALLACE

Oh, and Jack... word around the water cooler is that you've been hanging out with a pretty lady and her kid.

JACK

How do you guys always know my business!

WALLACE

Yet another one in the renowned line of Mitchell conquests, eh?

Panel 4. Jack has extended his finger, as if to correct Wallace's misconception. Jack is sincere.

JACK

Oh no... no, it's not like that this time.

JACK

This one is for real.

WALLACE

If you say so, Jack.

Panel 5. Wallace is in the process of exiting.

JACK

No, seriously.

WALLACE

Well, if you need anything else, I'll just be out there doing everything.

PAGE 2, 5 PANELS:

Panel 1. INT. JACK'S OFFICE FLOOR - DAY

Wallace, who wears a sneaky look on his face, walks and talks on his cell phone, while Stock Brokers buzz about to and fro.

WALLACE

(into phone)

The woman and kid... it's the real deal…

WALLACE

Yes, of course…

WALLACE

Okay.

Panel 3.

Wallace, with a mildly evil expression on his face, closes his cell.

Panel 4. EXT. VINEYARDS AND ORCHARDS (NICE RESTAURANT) – NIGHT

Panel 5. Many DINERS eat in the background, but the focus is on Jack and Janis.

JANIS

Jack, I can't believe how nice this restaurant is. I guess the stocks are doing well, huh?

PAGE 3, 6 PANELS:

Panel 1.

JACK

I don't really eat at places like this anymore... this is really just for you.

JANIS

Why, thank you.

JACK

My pleasure.

Panel 2.

JANIS

Listen, Jack... we've been seeing each other for a couple months now...

JACK

Uh oh.

JANIS

Well, I'm just wondering where this is all headed.

Panel 3.

JACK

To a good place, Janis. A good place.

JANIS

And where might I be able to locate this particular place?

JACK

We're getting there.

JANIS

We're getting "there"?

Panel 4. Just a sincere, concerned Jack.

JACK

I... I have this thing... I'm working on it. Really hard.

JACK

But until I take care of it, it wouldn't be fair to you... or to Sammy...

JANIS (O.P.)

And when you take care of this thing?

Panel 5. Janis indicates mild frustration.

JACK

Then we'll get there.

JANIS

Again with the mystery.

Panel 6.

JACK

You know where.

JANIS

But you're not going to say it.

JACK

Out loud?

JANIS

Preferably.

PAGE 4, 6 PANELS:

Panel 1. Just Jack.

JACK

I just don't want to mislead you... I'm trying not to do that to people…

Panel 2.

Just Janis, who indicates sadness.

Panel 3.

JACK

Look, if my obligation would be done with two days from now, then we'd get there two days from now... but it could take a while.

JANIS

Sammy adores you, y'know?

JACK

I'd be lucky to have a son like him.

Panel 4. Janis is a bit teary-eyed.

JANIS

When we get there.

JACK

When we get there.

Panel 5.

Janis exhales.

Panel 6. Jack indicates anxiety.

JANIS

Y'know, when you told me that you had something really important that you wanted us to talk about tonight... I kind of thought it was about how our relationship is progressing.

JACK

Oh, that... no, that was about something else that I've been meaning to explain to you since the first night you had me over…

PAGE 5, 5 PANELS:

Panel 1. Jack is interrupted by Janis' cell phone, which she's scanning, to see who's calling.

JACK

Remember when you said—

JANIS

I'm so sorry... The sitter sometimes has trouble with Sammy…

SFX: rrring rrring

JACK

Go ahead. No problem.

Panel 2. Jack exhales a half-hearted sigh of relief, as Janis answers the call.

JANIS

(into phone)

Hi, Tracy. Is everything okay?

Panel 3. INT. DR. MICHELLE SPIEGEL'S OFFICE

Psychiatrist DR. MICHELLE SPIEGEL holds session with Sammy, who is shaking his head "no."

MICHELLE

Did you have any of the old nightmares since we last met?

Panel is shaking his head "yes."

MICHELLE

Not even one?

MICHELLE

MICHELLE

Are you shaking your head "yes" that you had just one, or "yes" that you had none?

Panel 5.

Sammy shakes his head "yes" again. Michelle smiles.

MICHELLE

And now you're doing it again… very funny, mister.

PAGE 6, 6 PANELS:

Panel 1.

MICHELLE

How's mom?

SAMMY

Better.

MICHELLE

Why do you think that is?

Panel 2.

Sammy shyly withholds his answer (shrugs his shoulders and tilts his head downward slightly).

Panel 3.

MICHELLE

It's okay. You can tell me. Remember, everything that you tell me in here is like a secret.

SAMMY

SAMMY

'Cause of Mista Jack.

MICHELLE

I see. And how do you feel about your mom and...

Panel 4. INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Janis sits on the couch, while Sammy plays with his lego-esque set on the floor.

JANIS

Tracy said that you were acting unusually when you got home from Dr. Spiegel today…

SAMMY

I dunno.

JANIS

So what did you talk about with Mrs. Spiegel today?

Panel 5. Just Sammy, who has his finger to his lip, as if asking his mom to be quiet.

SAMMY

(small lettering)

Shhh! It's a secret.

Panel 6. Sammy continues working with toy pieces, not looking at Janis.

JANIS

It's okay, Sammy. I can keep a secret.

JANIS

So what did you talk about?

SAMMY

Stuff.

JANIS

Oh yeah? What kind of stuff.

SAMMY

All kinds of stuff.

PAGE 7, 5 PANELS:

Panel 1.

JANIS

Nightmares?

SAMMY

Nope.

SAMMY

I mean, I dint'ave any nightmare.

JANIS

Did you talk about your mom?

SAMMY

A little.

Panel 2.

JANIS

How about Jack?

SAMMY

He wasn't there.

JANIS

I meant, did you talk about Jack? And how he's been spending time with us?

SAMMY

Uh-huh.

Panel 3.

JANIS

And how do you feel about that?

SAMMY

I like Mista Jack.

JANIS

How would you feel if Mister Jack and mommy would spend even more time together?

Panel 4. An excited Sammy is standing.

SAMMY

You mean like getting married!

Panel 5. INT. JACK'S APARTMENT - TWILIGHT

Jack has just entered his apartment, and he's checking his watch,

Caption (top, left): We're not sure yet... but maybe. Would you like that?

JACK

Three…two...

PAGE 8, 6 PANELS:

Panel 1. Sanagor has just materialized (he's still a bit sparkly). Jack's watch is beeping.

JACK

Right on time, Sanagor.

SFX: beepbeepbeep

Panel 2. INT. JACK'S LIVING ROOM - SUNDOWN

Jack and Sanagor sit on the couch and chat.

SANAGOR

So, how are things, kid?

JACK

Oh, Sanagor, let me tell you, at the beginning, I wasn't too sure about this; but now, everything is great.

JACK

I mean, the missions are going really well. I even feel good about myself... and I... I think I'm in love!

Panel 3. Sanagor has lowered his head a bit and placed a hand on his forehead, indicating that, for some reason, he feels bad for Jack. Jack doesn't realize Sanagor's reaction.

SANAGOR

(small lettering)

Oh, Jack…

JACK

…I've never felt like this. Ever! I go through life never knowing love, then I die, and now I'm alive and in love! Can you believe that.

Panel 4.

JACK

Oh, and how are you, Sanagor?

SANAGOR

I'm well, Jack, thanks for asking. And I'm glad that the missions are going so well, especially since you've been charged with one of your most difficult tasks tonight.

JACK

Um, okay… so what do I have to do?

Panel 5. Sanagor hands a photo to Jack.

Panel 6. As he stares at the picture, Jack indicates shame (and we don't see the content of the picture).

PAGE 9, 5 PANELS:

Panel 1. We see that Jack is looking at a picture of BILLY GERARD (35 yo hitman). There's writing on the back of the photo (but we don't need to see it).

SANAGOR

From your reaction...

JACK

Yeah, I recognize him… he's a… an associate of some people I worked for.

JACK

What do I need to do?

Panel 2.

SANAGOR

You're going to let him have it.

JACK

What does that mean?

Panel 3. Just Sanagor, who's gaze is intense.

SANAGOR

There's an address on the back of the picture where you will be able to procure an abandoned gun.

Panel 4. Jack's eyes are wide, and his mouth is open. Sanagor remains steadfast.

SANAGOR

The bottom one is Mr. Gerard's home address. He leaves his back door open while he watches television programs at night…

JACK

You want me to murder somebody!?

Panel 5. Just Sanagor, who doesn't waiver.

SANAGOR

It has been decided that Billy Gerard's life will end on this day. It has also been decided that you are to be the one who ends it.

PAGE 10, 5 PANELS:

Panel 1.

JACK

There is no way I'm killing anybody for you!

JACK

Get me a different mission! I'll do anything else!

SANAGOR

Your own government executes murderers, does it not? The same source which grants them the right to do so has also decreed that Mr. Gerard be executed tonight.

SANAGOR

And it will happen, one way or another. His ticket is punched.

Panel 2. Sanagor waits silently, while Jack, who's bent downward and holding his head (almost in his lap), tries to come to terms with the situation.

Panel 3. Sanagor attempts to convince Jack.

SANAGOR

Jack, this is your mission. There's no dilly-dallying or dancing around it, so come to grips with it.

SANAGOR

You need to get the gun and go to Gerard, and I suggest you do it now.

JACK

This is crazy… and why can't you just hocus pocus a gun for me, the same way that you just materialize?

JACK

(small lettering)

This is all just crazy.

Panel 4. Just Sanagor.

SANAGOR

That would be against the rules, Jack, and I suggest that you quit stalling and carry out your mission at this… opportune juncture.

Panel 5. Jack struggles to make a decision.

Uh, uh, okay...

PAGE 13, 5 PANELS:

JACK

I'm really sorry about this whole thing.

JACK

Panel 3. Close-up of a shocked Billy.

BILLY

WHAT!? I think you got the wrong guy, brother.

Panel 4. Billy remains seated and animated.

JACK

Nah, you're the guy. You pushed Shawn James in front of a train. It was a little over a year ago.

BILLY

WHAT!? I swear to you on my mother's life, you got the wrong guy!

Panel 5.

JACK

And you did it right in front of his kid, too.

BILLY

Brother, I'm sorry for this kid that you're talking about, but I'm just a construction worker.

BILLY

I swear. I'll show you my ID!

PAGE 14, 3 PANELS:

Panel 1. Just Jack.

JACK

And you know something? I love that kid.

JACK

He has to go to shrinks all the time, all because of you.

Panel 2.

JACK

Anyway, I'm sorry, but I have to kill you now.

BILLY

What the hell, man!

BILLY

I ain't done $#!*!

Panel 3. It appears as if Jack is going to pull the trigger. Billy now has both knees on the floor and he's begging.

BILLY

Wait! Hold up! I can give you the guy who paid me.

BILLY

This guy, Salvatore. He's the guy you really want.

BILLY

He set the whole thing up.

If it wadn't me, it woulda been somebody else.

Janis, Sammy and Jack eat lunch. Janis is thinking about, and responding to, a question that was just posed to her by Jack. Sammy is enamored by a fly that's buzzing around, which will continue through the next few panels.

JANIS

Well... I guess that would be when I taught second grade, and this really cute kid named Trevor came over all shy and asked me, "Mrs. James, what does..."

Panel 2.

Janis looks towards Sammy and realizes that she must edit her forthcoming verbiage.

Panel 3. Janis quietly and cautiously finishes her response.

JANIS

(small lettering)

What does "F'n B" mean?"

Panel 4.

Jack laughs.

JACK

Get out of here.

JANIS

I swear. And back when I was teaching third grade-
