It was raining in Manchester. The sky was a dark grey, and the rain splashed everywhere, leaving the parks empty and the warm café's full. One of the smallest café's was filled to the brim, with students from the University of Manchester. It was run by a group of Uni kids, and many had come to spend the last day before winter break together, with lots of coffee and hot chocolate, and loud music.
"Come on, it'll be fun. Plus you'll finally be able to meet my boyfriend." the pretty girl, a political major, said pulling on her freshman roommates hand. The smaller girl, a creative writing major, was stubborn though, and wasn't in the mood to go to the café. She knew it would be filled with other students, but she was still trying to get use to people again. She had been secluded for the past two years, after being home schooled because of bullying, and big crowds scared her.
"No Eleanor. I have to um pack, yes that's right! I have to pack for tomorrow; I don't want to miss my plane back to the States." The smaller girl said. The girl named Eleanor rolled her eyes.
"Ella, you and I both know that you have already packed, and double checked. Now we are going to the café, even if I have to drag you kicking and screaming."
Ella sighed, and went to get on her shoes. "Eleanor, I swear the next time I need a new book, I am dragging you around to every new and used bookstore with a 2 hour radius."
Eleanor squealed and hugged the smaller girl, and ran to get her rain coat. By the time the girls arrived at the café, the rain was a steady down pour. Inside, it was warm, and the drinks had become free. Everyone was socializing, basking in the idea of not having to worry about test or homework for the coming weeks.
"Two hot chocolates please" Eleanor said, flashing her dazzling smile at the barista behind the counter.
"So what are you going to do back home, Ella." she said, waiting for their drinks to come.
"My family will probably drag me to New York to see the Christmas tree lighting, and then we'll go to Florida for Christmas at my grandparents. How about you, El?"
The older girl smiled, and turned bright pink. "Mick invited me to meet his family."
Ella giggled. "Oh Eleanor!"
The girls smiled and took their drinks.
"Not to alarm you, but there is a boy, staring at you with an evil smirk on his face." Eleanor turned around, and bit her lip.
"That's Mick, come on, I want you to meet him." she grabbed her friends hand and pulled her through the crowd, before running into her boyfriends arms. He kissed her, and snaked an arm around her waist.
"Mick, this is my roommate Ella, El's, this is Mick." Eleanor introduced them. He smiled at the short girl.
"Sup short stuff." He said, taking a sip of Eleanor's drink. Ella blushed, and Eleanor hit him.
"Oh and Ella, this is the gang. This is Justin." She said pointing the blonde boy, "That's Chris and Perry," looking at the handsome dark haired boy, and the pretty blonde girl, "That's Danni and Zac" pointing to the beautiful curly haired girl, and the innocent faced boy, "and last but not least, that's Harry." she said rolling her eyes and the smirking curly haired boy.
"Everyone, this is Ella. She's a freshman, like you Harold. Everyone else in a junior like me and Mick." After the introductions they snagged a table big enough for all of them, and Justin went off to find his girlfriend. They stuck Harry next to Ella, and started talking about winter plans.
"So Ella, what are you majoring in, over here in the great British isle?"
"I'm a creative writing major, you're in law right." She said. He took a drink of his coffee.
"Yeah, how did you know? You been stalking Me." He raised his eye brows at. She grins and shakes her head.
"No, I believe you are Mr. Styles, the most sought after freshman boy, on the whole campus. Nearly every class I have at least one girl is talking bout you."
The boy smirked.
"You hear that Mickey, I'm the most sought after guy on campus." The boys high fived, causing the two girls to roll their eyes.
"How do you know Mick." she asked, as she started to play with her hair.
"He's my roommate. He basically hated me at first, then he's like, I'm going have to deal with you aren't I. Now he basically like my older brother."
She smiled, and looked up at him. "Yeah, I know what you mean. Eleanor never hated me, but she's the best friend I have here."
The night went on, and the café was getting ready to close. Harry and Ella had talked the whole time, and she had realized why he was the most sought after freshman. His eyes lit up whenever he talked about his family, or his niece, Lydia. He was fit from his years of playing soccer, and the way he flipped his hair of his eyes was very intoxicating.
"So Harry, I guess I'll see you arou…" she was cut off by Eleanor dragging her hand and running out of the café.
"Yes, we'll meet you guys there in twenty. Love you too Mick." Eleanor yelled as she pulled Ella away. Ella barely had time to grab her coat before they ran into the rain.
"Eleanor, I was saying goodbye, why are we in such a rush." They ran to their dorm and Eleanor started to search frantically through her closet.
"We're all going to the club, the one bout 7 miles from here. And I thought I should give you your Christmas present before we go. Aha" she said triumphantly, pulling a wrapped box out of the closet.
"Club! El you know I have to catch my flight"
"It's a seven at night. Don't argue with me. I only have two years to corrupt you, so don't even think about not coming. Like I said before, I will drag you kicking and screaming, now open your present!"
Ella nodded her head, and ran to her room to grab the bag with Eleanor's present. Together they opened their bags.
"Oh Eleanor, you didn't have to." she said running up and engulfing her friend in a hug.
"Yes I did. And this bracelet is beautiful. Help me put it on, and I'll teach you how to tie the Jeffery Campbell's. They'll make you taller but you'll still be shorter than Harry"
Ella blushed at the words. They made it to the club at the same time as the rest of the group. The quickly ushered them inside, and the place was packed. People where dancing, the music was pounding in their hearts, and it was just what they needed before going home. Once inside, they dispersed, yet again leaving Harry alone with Ella.
"So, Shorty, what do ya drink" he said, pulling her with him toward the bar.
"I don't drink" she said trying not to trip in her new shoes.
"Don't pull that with me Ells. Your eighteen, so I'm going to buy you a drink, even if it just one. Now tell me what you want." she sighed and clenched her hand. Eleanor had been intent on making her drunk on her eighteenth birthday, but she still wasn't too in on the drinking thing.
"Just get me something small" she said. He rolled his eyes at her, but went and got them drinks. After they both had a glass, they moved to the dance floor, after much persuading by Harry.
"Come on Ella; tell me, what is it short for." He said, trying to learn more about her. She shook her head as she moved to the music.
"It's short for Elizabeth"
"Like the Queen."
She rolled her eyes.
"No like the Pirates of the Caribbean character."
He smiled down at her.
"Good taste in movies." She smiled at his words and kept moving, until he pulled flush up against him, her back to his front and took hold of her hips.
"Did they ever teach you how to dance in the states?"
She felt her heart beat speed up and slowly started to move her hips against his.
"I've been to a few clubs in my days." The music was fast beat, and their heart were beating faster. All of a sudden, he flipped her to face him, and stared into her eyes. She realized his were dark with lust, and his voice was hoarse.
"Gosh Ells" he said resting his forehead on hers. He was moving his head closer, and she swore he was going to kiss her, when for the second time that night, Eleanor came in-between them, and took Ella's hand. Harry groaned and wiped his hand over his hand.
"Mick! Control your girlfriend" he said glaring at his best friend who came up behind Eleanor. Both of them were slightly drunk.
"We're gathering everyone up, and going to the soccer field a block or two over." Mick explained. Harry sighed and took Ella's hand. He leaned down and whispered into her ear.
"This should be fun."
It was two o'clock in the morning by the time all ten of them had gotten over to the field. Mick used his team pass to get in and turn on the lights. Justin and his girlfriend Amy had snuck off to the bleachers, Danni and Zac were snuggling by the goal post, Chris was giving Perry a Piggyback ride, and Mick was chasing Eleanor around, screaming "I love you" at the top of his lungs. Ella smiled as she looked at all of them, glad that Eleanor had dragged her out. She felt Harry come up behind her and rest his head on top of hers.
"Their lunatics, but we love them." she nodded and turned to look at him.
"I'm glad I came tonight." she said. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her to him.
"I am too." he bit his lip and looked into her eyes.
"Take off your shoes Ells" he said releasing his grip on her. She gave him a confused look but complied, shrinking back to her original 5'2 frame. She pouted and looked up at him.
"I like it when you're shorter, with those shoes on, you where too tall for my liking. You're a nice height." She rolled her eyes at him.
He gave her a victorious grin and started to move slowly toward her. She started take a step back with every step he took, until she felt something hard hit her back.
"Why are you cornering me" she said, her voice barely above a whisper. He took the last few steps to her.
"Because like you said, I'm insane."
Suddenly from behind them there was a shriek, and they turned and looked, Mick had Eleanor on his shoulders and she had her hands up to the sky and her eyes closed.
"What is it Mick" Harry yelled across the pitch. Mick smiled and looked up at the sky.
"It's snowing in Britain!" They both looked up and saw, the small white flurries falling from the sky.
"Look, maybe you guys will have a white Christmas." Ella said trying to catch the snow in her hands. Harry laughed.
"Maybe, you never know when a miracle might happen." She looked up into his eyes, and saw the same look from earlier that night. He dipped his head so it was the same height as hers.
"Happy Christmas, Ella" he said, dropping his lips to hers in a small kiss. Even from the small contact, Ella felt her body flame up and the blush rise to her cheeks. He pulled back and looked at her. He looked like he was going to rise up again, when she grabbed his neck and pulled him back to her. He chuckled into the kiss, and pulled her, so he was supporting her, her legs wrapped around his torso, and his arms under her legs. Eleanor looked over at the gate, and saw her best friend wrapped around Harry. A smile came to her face as she went to pull on Mick's hand to make him come and look.
"Mick, we did it!" she said snuggling into his side. He looked over, and saw the same sight, and laughed.
"I knew once we got them talking, they would be perfect for each other." He wrapped his arms around his girlfriend and rested his head on top of hers.
"Happy Christmas, El's" he kissed her hair, and she sighed happily into him.
