Lie with me tonight,
For it is in sleep
And in dreaming
That we are us,
Truly us.
Not holding up masks
That hide our true faces
From the judgemental eyes
Of the world.

In sleep we are safest:
Free from the perils of
Reality and consequence.
Nothing can hurt us.

In dreams
We can jump off a building
And walk away afterwards,
The blood and dust little more
Than an inconvenience.
We can love
Whomever we wish to love
Without fear of rejection.
