Chapter Seven

"See that?" Riley pointed into the distance. "I think that's an island."

Aurora squinted. "Yeah, I think you're right."

"That's a lot of trees," Ben observed.

"Why don't we go over there?" Mavy asked, seated in a small wooden rowboat. "We've got a boat, don't we?"

"We can't just row up to there!" Ben put his hands on his hips.

"But why not?" Adriana asked. "It's not a bad idea."

~4 years later~

Mavy hugged Cheer close to her as they looked through the old pictures.

"This is like an ancient artifact," Adriana held her old necklace in her palm, the compass swaying. "Still works, though."

Aurora flipped through her moleskin notebook. "Look at all these sketches! And the notes! I can't believe I did this."

Riley lazily swung the oars, rowing the small boat. "So that island you wrote about- the one in the pictures- How did we forget about it?"

"Who knows?" Ben said.

"I think it's time we find out," Aurora said as they pulled onto the shore of the island.

"Look at this place!" Mavy spun in a circle, arms outstretched.

"It's so pretty," Adriana looked around.

"Fascinating," Aurora was busy scribbling in her notebook.

Ben climbed up the top of the hill. "I hereby pronounce, this island property of the five of us." He stuck a makeshift flag into the dirt.

"Race you to the other side!" Riley bolted.

The rest of them followed, laughing and running after him.

They ran through the island, pushing past low hanging vegetation.

And then, they broke into a clearing.

"Woah," They gasped, stopping in their tracks.

It was…

~4 years later~

"Last one to the other side is a rotten egg!" Ben shouted, just like old times.

They bolted down the hill, passing the worn out flag.

They followed the winding dirt path, laughing all the while.

"Try and keep up!" Mavy yelled to them as she went ahead.

Shrubbery and low hanging branches scraped at them, but they didn't care.

They ran and ran and ran until the path came to a stop.

They'd reached the other end of the island.

Flowers sprung up everywhere.

Waves broke against the shore.

A gigantic pirate ship lay ahead of them, across the wooden dock they stood on.

A man in a large hat and coat extended a hand to them.

"How would you like to go for an adventure?"
