Why don't you care?

A thousand tongues twist in pain

Yet you refuse to bat an eyelid

.

Is it because you cannot see the fear in their eyes

The tears on their cheeks

In this world full of lies

You won't take a peek

At the truth.

.

Or do you just not care?

Are their screams nothing to you?

Simply the wind whistling through a tower of apathy.

The carnivorous wind

In this world of consumerism

Everything within either predator or prey

Don't believe me?

Look closer

But then again,

You don't care

You muffle your ears from the cold

And in doing so drown out a thousand pleas for

Help

Mercy

Empathy

.

You cannot see the fear in their eyes

The tears on their cheeks

In this world full of lies

You won't take a peek

At the truth

.

Was your heart stolen when you were very small?

Perhaps you were deemed too fragile for such a volatile and cruel world

So they opened up your chest

Cut out your heart

Let your blood drip onto the crimson floor

Then they placed your battered heart in a jar labelled "safekeeping" and stored it high on a shelf

Out of reach

Out of touch

Out of use

Replaced by a substance far more durable

To protect, you understand

Then again, some don't have that chance

.

Just because you cannot see the fear in their eyes

Or the tears on their cheeks

Doesn't make it any less real

In this world full of lies

You won't take a peek at the truth

.

Why don't you care?

.

Do I care?
