Midnight

Alone at midnight

the owl sings his lonely song

the moon shines with borrowed light

and a pack of wolves

comfy in their company

howl

a warning

to stay away

At midnight

a cool wind blows

Leaves flutter

silver in the cold light

so unlike the warmth of day

yet from the same source

the sun

with no power

at midnight

at midnight

the earth is cold

cruel

but beautiful

like a hawk

graceful

majestic

with its swoops and dives

but then it attacks

the defenseless mouse

cruel

merciless

but beautiful

all at midnight
