The woman in black's eyes flew open. Something wasn't right. She got out of bed, and went to her window. The door creaked as it opened, and she took a deep breath, tasting the night air; things had changed. She snapped her neck to the right, looking out to the forest across the hills… No. There was no change there… Besides, it couldn't be.
The forest was a smudge against the skyline from the tower window, but it would look different, if… No. She would not even think the accursed words. The woman stood there for hours, waiting for the air to change back…. But it didn't. With a hiss she slammed the window shut and went to the writing desk. She must make note of this. Just in case…. But it couldn't be. For her sake, it couldn't be.
