Red on white

Blackened air

Teardrops sticking in her hair

All alone at last

In a world unforgiving.

Running helps

But not enough

To slow her thoughts

In their light speed rush

The sound of cars

Blinded her with ringing.

Red on white

Herself no one saw

Seeing only a girl dissolved

They thought, 'There's

Nothing I could do to help her.'

They went on living.

She ran to where

The sun would rise

To where a light

Would burn her eyes

Reminding her to fight

What life was bringing

Red on white

Stung the night sky

And she went on

Till the sun did rise

With the night left the pain

No more stinging

Of red on white.
