Sorry about the short chapter! I think it should be longer on the next one. By the way, there will be a lot of dialogue and not much action for the first couple chapters, if you haven't already guessed. Action will come though, the action will come.
You're standing in a pitch black room, and you can see clearly where the walls end and begin, and where things would differ from one another. The only other thing in the room is a single scarlet envelope on a pitch black table in front of you. You recognize this place. It's been in your dreams a lot lately, and it's always the same thing. You never could read the envelope before your woke up though.
Determined this time, you race towards the table, snatching up the envelope and ripping it open. On the letter inside are 7 words: 'Do you want to know a secret?' A voice eerily echoes the words as you read them, startling you.
"What secret?" You ask, turning in circles to try to find the source of the voice.
'Your secret.' It croons smugly. The black room bleeds crimson red, the envelope staining black. The two words on the letter disappear, and a new message appears in white.
You mutter the words aloud to yourself, staring in frustration at the paper, brows furrowed. "What the hell does this mean?!" You scream into the air. The ground under you falls open like a trap door, and you fall in.
Your alarm clock reads 11:17. You curse and roll over. Considering the time, you decide to just stay home. Another hour passes, and it's not long until your doorbell rings. You have a feeling you know who it is.
Groggily, you go to the door and open it. As you suspected, Carmine, Daryk, and Winter are standing there. "You look awful. Ça va?" Daryk immediately blurts out, pinching your cheek as if to wake you up. You push his hand away and shrug, letting them in.
"Why weren't you at school?" Carmine asks, raising an eyebrow.
"Alarm didn't go off. By the time I woke up, it was so late, I would've had to leave already by the time I got to school." You reply, giving another shrug. "So I didn't bother." Daryk busts out laughing at your answer, Winter lets out a small chuckle, and Carmine rolls her eyes. Deciding you might as well change, you head into your room.
When you throw your sheets onto the bed-being too lazy to properly make it-you notice a small, crumpled piece of paper fall to the ground. it was pitch black, and upon picking it up, you see 8 words written in a bloody crimson.
You're staring at it in shock when the 'big bad trio' come in. "Hey, I smelled blood. You alright, Isaac?"
"It was probably nothing." You reply quickly, regaining your composure. "Hey, I need help translating something. My foreign language teacher back at America was about to translate there words, when I moved here. I wanted to know what they mean."
"Okay," says Winter.
"The words are begierde, gier, stolz, faultier, beneiden, zorn, völlerei, and schuld. Can anyone translate that?"
"That's German, I think. Carmine's studied abroad in Germany a few years back." Daryk looks at her expectantly, who shrugs.
"I'm a little rusty, but I can try. Let's see... begierde, gier, stolz, faultier, beneiden, zorn, völlerei, and schuld, right? I believe, in that order, it's the 7 sins of humanity: Lust, Greed, Pride, Sloth, Envy, Wrath, and Gluttony."
"Wait. There's 8 words right? So what does Schuld mean?" Daryk asks, a bit loudly.
"...Guilt." Winter mutters, looking at the letter in your hands. You jump slightly when you hear his voice, surprised. You wonder how you didn't notice him before. Looking back at the paper, you see that the words have been translated into English. At the bottom, there's a new line.
'Do you want to know a secret?'
