I wasn't a saint:
I toed the law –
Jumping across that line
From time to time.
I broke hearts
And caused tears;
I bruised and scratched,
Taking out on you, my own fears.
I was a mess in a dress,
With tops too low
And skirts too high.
I teased and taunted
While they gossiped cruel
Behind my back –
Snorting and laughing
And belittling me
(some of it, admittedly, was deserving)
But I was a lesser being,
While a few loved me,
Most of them despised,
And I think it's fair,
They aren't saying anything new,
It's already there,
Buried inside my head.
