Carry My Spirit
It all seemed to had all gone by so fast, a loud screech, a loud crash followed by pain all around his body and to finish it off, the cries of terror as everything went black. It had started out as a normal school day but for young Leonardo Thompson things had went from good to terrible. He was supposed to be at school hanging out with his friends before class started but now he didn't know what had happened. In front of him he could see the top of the tall buildings scattered all over town.
"What happened? Am I floating?" he asked himself in a state of confusion.
But when he looked down to the street below he realized that was indeed floating high in the sky, but how? His mind was just filled to the brim with questions as to what had happened, but then he heard a very familiar cry.
"My boy, my little boy!"
It was a woman, no it was his own mother. Slightly to the right he saw a most gruesome sight, his mother's car had collided with an eighteen wheeler which had fallen over on its side as well as the tanker which broke free from its bonds. Slowly he started to descend back down towards the ground until his feet touched the street.
"Mom, I'm still here. What's wrong?" he asked as he approached his crying mother who was crying beside the tanker.
It wasn't until he got a closer look as to what she was crying over that he realized exactly what it was. It was him, his body completely crushed under large steel tanker.
"No, no this can't be. I have to be dreaming right? Yeah that's it I have to be dreaming."
In an attempt to wake up from what he thought was a dream he closed his eyes only to open them back up to the gruesome sight of his blood soaked body.
"This can't be real! I'm too young to be worm food!" he cried out.
Wait, maybe he could connect with his mother he thought. If they had a link with each other maybe he could communicate with her somehow.
"My little boy, you can't…you can't die."
Once he kneeled down to meet her at ear level he tried to communicate with her as best as he could.
"Mom, I'm here, please hear me."
But he got no response.
"Mom please, I'm here I'm here look at me!"
No matter how much he yelled or screamed out to her she still just continued to cry over his crushed body. He couldn't believe it, he was actually dead. What was he going to do? Where was he going to go? His body shook with fear as he stood up only to find a crowd of people had started to form around the two destroyed vehicles as well as a few police men. As he walked through the crowd of people he could feel a few tears forming in his eyes as he fell to his knees.
"I came so far, why?! Tell me why!" he yelled up to the heavens as he pounded at the ground.
He didn't know what to do, he didn't expect to die at only eighteen. His life held so much, he would have gone to college, gotten a degree in Entertainment Technology, settle down with a girl and have a good family together and work for an honest wage, but it seemed fate had something else in store for him instead. To take his mind off of things he decided to take a little in hope that everything would straighten itself out. As he walked another thought ran through his mind, how was his sister going to react when she found out what happened to him? She wasn't exactly a princess and she liked to kick his ass at karate, but she was still his sister and when she found out he only hoped she at least felt a little sad. As he walked down the walkway he began to notice something rather strange, someone had been walking behind him ever since he had started his own walk. Could the guy actually see him? If so he was in luck, maybe he could deliver a message to his mother.
"Hey buddy, would you mind doing me a favor?" he asked as he turned around.
He expected something from the guy, but instead all he got was a smirk.
"You shouldn't be walking the streets alone you little spirit…."
"Huh, what are you talking about? It's just the two of us."
"Yes, just the two of us…."
What he saw next terrified him. The man's flesh suddenly burst into flames as something else emerged from the charred remains. A creature with putrid black skin, two heads that were barely separate, rows upon rows of sharp teeth claws that looked like they could tear through metal.
"Time for a little snack!"
Ok, the day had gone from good, to terrible, to complete bat-shit insane. As the beast prepared to lunge forward towards he him saw a metal pipe close to his position, if he could grab it maybe he could give the beast a good smack to the head. His hand reached over for the solid object, but as soon as he had it in his grasp the pole dropped through his fingers.
"It's useless, time to fade little spirit!" it roared as it lunged towards him.
With his quick thinking skills he dodge rolled to the side and into a alleyway where he then ran through the fence and out to the other side.
"Alright, what else do you want to throw at me huh?" he asked God as he ran down the street.
The creature would soon catch up with him so in an attempt to escape ran into another alleyway in hope that there was a dumpster or something that he could hide in. To his misfortune though there was not, in fact it left him wide open.
"You can't escape a demon little boy!"
The earth shook below his feet as he heard the beast land right behind him. It didn't matter where he ran this thing would find him. It was as if it could pick up his scent. As it approached him he backed up until he felt the wall behind him.
"Well then, it's time to dig in."
So this was how it was going to end, eaten by a monster. Great, just perfect, he wanted a normal life but no fate handed him this instead. As it opened its mouth he could see the many tongue that laid inside. He didn't want go out like this, he wanted to at least reach paradise.
"Help me please!"
At that moment it was as if God had answered his call. From the sky they both heard a loud humming sound as a ball of light began to approach them.
"Perfect, more spirits!"
But as it opened its large mouth to try and catch the orb of light it transformed into something he could have only thought of as an angel. A girl with a mix of red and orange hair with blonde for the tips of her hair, with only a purple tube top and green pants to cover her body as she held a black spiked bat in both hands. Did he see that right? A black, spiked back?
"Hah, just try and eat me! I'll just give you indigestion!"
And with that she swung her weapon as hard as she could towards the beasts head. The next thing he knew he saw the severed heads flying out into the nearby park as the body dissolved into black gunk.
"What the hell?!" He yelled inside his mind as he looked over at the girl.
He didn't know what to think when she swung her bat again to get the monsters blood off its shining surface. Who the heck was this girl? What was she? His heart almost skipped a beat when she turned towards him only to ask him a simple question.
"So, you're Leonardo." She said as she swung her bat slightly to get some of the blood off.
He didn't know how to response, he had just witnessed a girl falling from the sky only to decapitate a demon.
"Well, are you?"
"Y-Yes I am." He stuttered.
The look on her face seemed very serious, but this face quickly turned into a more gentle structure.
"Hello, I'm Elisa, part of Heaven's Spirit Collectors." She said as she pulled out what looked like a business card.
"Look, I know you must be very confused but if you come with me right now I can explain everything to you."
"Wait, go where?"
"To Paradise, duh."
To Heaven, so she really was an angel, or was she? After what had just happened he didn't know who he could trust. That card she gave him could have obviously been a fake. All he wanted was for his mother to see him again, but with him being a spirit and all he knew that that was never going to happen.
"You know I think I'll stick around. This is where I was born after all." He stated.
"Yeah and it's were you died too now let's get going. I have a schedule to keep."
"Well good for you, but for me I'm staying right here."
"Are you insane?! Do you want another one of those things coming after you?!"
He wasn't going to respond to her until she showed him some proof. When she began talking again he thought she was going to come straight with him, but instead she said something completely different.
"Looks like I have no other choice."
When he turned his head he was greeted with a swift smack to the head before he fell to ground. The last thing he saw before he passed out was her hand grabbing his collar as a bright blue light shined down upon them.
