Prologue

The sun slowly descends across the sky.

The light fades as the dark quickly expands.

The ball of fire disappears.

And then it's gone.

The day is done.

The night begins.

"What are you doing?" my mother asked me from across the room.

"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm obviously on the computer." I tell her, not looking away from the monitor.

"You should be doing your homework" my mother tried to say sternly.

"Mom. I don't need to do homework anymore. I'm a creature of the night. Creatures of the night don't need to do homework. I'll live for eternity. I'm the top of the food chain. I don't need math."

"You'll live for eternity? I guess that means you have time to do your homework. Now. " I brushed her off. Like she could make me do anything I didn't want to do.

"You're not going to? Well then. You leave me no choice." Yep, she was trying to be all intimidating with her hands on her hips. It wasn't working.

"I'm sending you to-"

"Sending me where?" Pshh.

"I'm sending you to Thgilyad Academy"

"You can enroll me. But that doesn't mean I'm going"

"Yes it does. They have a 100% attendance rate. They have their ways of getting you onto that bus."

"Like I said. They can try, but I'm not going anywhere."
