Note: First fic, happy I could post it after 24 hours... I had a hard time categorize this fic and if you know a better category, review.

Some of you got my message and understood; This is Sting's song, and I'm inspired by him, bare with it. If you still want to read the fic even if you have my rudeness hanging over you: Read and Enjoy!

You could say I lost my faith in science and progress
You could say I lost my belief in the holy church

A man stood there, on the empty street, watching for anybody to come out of the cold dark houses. He heard nothing, saw nothing, no human was visible. Street lights buzzed and it was the only thing you could hear. But, there was something more, something he never heard before.

A young girl suddenly walked past him, she hummed on a song. It was strange, because the man had never seen her here before, and he had looked everywhere in this town for a living thing! He came to the conclusion that the town was abandoned. But, the girl just walked past him.

You could say I lost my sense of direction
You could say all of this and worse but

He heard the girls now humming words and the man compressed and urge to snort and laugh at the same time. It was just like him! He didn't know where he was, he just kept on walking. The man stood completely still, and waited for her next words. It would be funny to hear them. She was now rounding the corner and he could hear her quiet humming.

If I ever lose my faith in you
There'd be nothing left for me to do

The man felt his heart swell in a weird way, but he felt warm of the singing, like he got motivated to continue. He needed it badly too, he had soon lost faith in his map and mind. The man started to walk in fast steps to the corner where the girl had gone, singing. He walked faster, he didn't hear her, he didn't see her. It was strange, he thought, because he had seen her for a few minutes ago...

The man stopped. It was a dead end of the street. A high wall was build right before him. The man was now really suspicious, how did the girl get over or under or whatever, without him seeing it?

Some would say I was a lost man in a lost world
You could say I lost my faith in the people on TV

He heard the singing again, another voice this time. The man tried to perk his ears to hear the singing tone again. He had heard it not on the other side of the wall, he had heard it where he came from. It began to be more strange, but the singing voice had once again made his heart swell.

The man was listening again for the singing, he wanted to go right, and he did not want to search for the humming words, it felt stupid. In which he didn't notice, because he did it, right now.

You could say I'd lost my belief in our politicians
They all seemed like game-show host to me

Definitely where he came from, the man thought as he walked out of the alley. No one. No one was there, not a single living being who could use its tongue to make words. No one, in the empty street where the man started his searching, was there.

If I ever lose my faith in you
There'd be nothing left for me to do

An old man sang quietly for himself where he stood on the terrace to his garden. He watered the flowers in their pots, but did not notice that the flowers were wilted and dead. The man would just point that out, when he saw the flowers rise again, the terrace being once again white instead of dark and rotted. The old man became himself more colorful as his wife walked out from their house.

The man just stared. How? All houses were rotten, dark, except that ones who he caught a glimpse of in the street lights. A middle aged woman walked out from a market the man never seen before -but must had walked past it. She smiled at him. The smile was strange, it was not forced, but not real.

I could be lost their lies without a trace
But every time I close my eyes, I see your face

A beautiful dark toned voice sang, and the man discovered it was himself. He thought about the lyrics one second, before he understood what it meant. He was trapped, trapped in this town, trapped in this street. The lyrics was him. The man lived in the lyrics, and he was trapped in it, of monsters, who used it against him.

I never saw no miracle of science
That didn't go from a blessing to a curse

He closed his eyes, he was wandering in darkness.

I never saw no military solution
That didn't end up something worse

He felt the monsters and demons form a circle around him. It was no going back now, he thought as he felt arms take their parts around him.

But let me say this first
If I ever lose my faith in you
If I ever lose my faith in you
There'd be nothing left for me to do
There'd be nothing left for me to do

The man sang with all his strength and the hands stopped, just for a moment. The man thought if he could run away. No, there's was no going back.

If I ever lose my faith
If I ever lose my faith
If I ever lose my faith
If I ever lose my faith in you

And he felt the demons eating his flesh, eating his bones, till there was nothing left of him. He didn't want to see it, he didn't want to hear it. But most of all: He didn't feel the pain anymore.
