INT. ALE HOUSE RESTAURANT – NIGHT

Loud music blares over giant speakers. CHASE (mid 20's), a little man with glasses and a large nose, sits at a table in the far corner of the restaurant. Posters plastered on the wall boast of a weekly trivia competition. First place gets a 25 dollar gift card to the restaurant.

A microphone rests beside a computer. He fiddles with it for a moment, finding the next question.

CHASE

What sweet condiment can be used as

both an antibacterial and an

anti-inflammatory agent?

The song changes. Various PATRONS lean into each other to discuss.

In a table close to the host, SKYLAR (late 20's) and AIDEN (mid 20's) sit looking down at their answer pad. Waiting for an answer to write itself. Aiden is wearing green scrubs and his hospital name tag. He looks tired. A half eaten quesadilla sits at the edge of the table.

SKYLAR

Come on trivia master. Time's a factor.

AIDEN

Don't rush me.

A glance to the heavens. He sighs. Shrugs his shoulders. Scribbles down "honey" and walks over to Chase to hand in his answer.

The song ends. A few remaining teams rush up to give in their answers.

CHASE

The answer is 'honey'. Alright

here's a fun one. In the sitcom

'The Honeymooners' what is Ralph

Kramden's famous catch phrase?

Skylar grabs the pen and pad.

SKYLAR

One of these days right to the moon?

AIDEN

I think it's 'pow! Right in the kisser.'

SKYLAR

That too, but I think his official catch phrase was 'right to the moon.'

Aiden snatches the pen and pad away from Skylar and writes down his answer.

SKYLAR

You're wrong! It was even on Family Guy remember?

AIDEN

You're an idiot. I swear you get

dumber every week.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Aiden looks down at his pager, a blocky, antiquated thing, in annoyance.

AIDEN

Write whatever the fuck you want, I

have to go.

He storms out, bumping into a waitress on his way. Skylar scratches off Aiden's answer and writes in his own but he doesn't turn it in. He sits at his table. Quiet.

CHASE

'Right in the kisser'

(Pause)

Is not the correct answer. The

correct answer is 'right to the moon'!

A chuckle. He tosses the pad off to the side and leans back in his chair. The TV catches his eyes. Headlines read: New Flu Strain Extremely Contagious. Take Appropriate Precautions.

INT. LIVING ROOM - SHORT TIME LATER

Skylar walks into an almost perfectly clean apartment. Sigh. He removes his jacket and places it on the old, blue leather couch. He walks over to the coffee table and picks up the half empty cups, disposing of them in the sink. Turns on faucet. Wash. Dry. Stores. Looks around.

Socks by the TV. Grabs them and walks into the bedroom.

INT. BEDROOM – CONTINUOUS

The socks are tossed in the hamper. Scrubs lay on the floor just the left. Skylar grabs them, throws them in. He looks over to the nightstands. His is impeccable. Aiden's has more half empty cups of water on it, random papers, and pens - a half eaten sandwich.

Grimace. He picks up the sandwich and throws it into the garbage bin by his nightstand. Disgusting.

He gets ready for bed. Removes shoes. Folds pants. Places shirt in the hamper. Turns on TV.

TV REPORTER

Reports confirm the first wave of

deaths linked to the virus.

Buzz. Buzz. Incoming text message.

Aiden: I love you.

Fingers hover over the keyboard for a moment. Skylar hits 'ignore.'

TV REPORTER

The voice fades as he drifts off to sleep.

INT. BEDROOM – DAY

The sound of running water wakes SKYLAR from his peaceful slumber. He rolls over, looks at his clock. 8:25 AM. He gets up and wanders into the bathroom.

INT. BATHROOM – CONTINUOUS

Skylar is instantly greeted by Aiden's clothes lying on the floor, inches away from the basket. Eye twitch.

SKYLAR

Damn it Aiden! Is it that hard for

you to put your fucking clothes in

the fucking hamper?!

Water stops. Curtains are flung back. Aiden grabs his towel. Dark circles all too noticeable beneath his pale blue eyes.

AIDEN

God, can you quit your bitching for

2 seconds? I am not in the mood for

your O-C-D shit.

He walks past Skylar, dripping water as he lazily dries his fiery red hair.

INT. BEDROOM – CONTINUOUS

Aiden comes in, Skylar follows.

SKYLAR

I am so sick of selfish attitude.

I'm not your mother. Pick. Up.

After. Yourself.

He tosses the towel on the floor and crawls into bed.

SKYLAR

The fuck did I just say Aiden?!

AIDEN

Can you please, for the love of god,

just let me sleep? The hospital has me

on a never ending shift.

SKYLAR

I can't do this anymore. I want you gone.

Covers are flung back. Aiden stands. Walks over.

The immense height difference is now obvious. Aiden towers over Skylar. His stance is threatening.

Skylar doesn't move.

AIDEN

You're being a little dramatic.

We'll talk about this in a few

hours after I get some sleep.

Shove.

Aiden loses his balance a little and stumbles back.

SKYLAR

We're done.

AIDEN

Fuck Skylar, I don't need your crap

today. Can we do this later?

Skylar walks over to Aiden's clothes and tosses his clothes on the floor.

Aiden shifts his weight from foot to foot.

AIDEN

Please don't do this.

Toss.

AIDEN

Please?

Toss.

AIDEN

FUCK!

He punches the wall beside Skylar's head. Skylar stops what he's doing to face him. Shocked. He walks away. Aiden follows.

INT. LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Skylar makes a beeline for the door but Aiden blocks him. Hands up in surrender.

AIDEN

I'm so sorry. I don't know what

happened. I've just been so

tired... Please, I'm sorry.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

A sigh, almost desperate.

AIDEN

Can we talk about this when I get back?

Skylar nods.

Aiden rushes off to get dressed. Grabs his pager before he leaves.

AIDEN

Don't do anything stupid.

The door closes behind him.

A sigh of relief. Skylar walks back into the bedroom.

INT. BEDROOM – CONTINUOUS

Clothes are slowly being hung back. He looks over at the hole in the wall. He crumbles to the ground, tears in his big brown eyes.

He sits amongst the clothes, tears falling silently. A change. Determination on his face. He wipes his eyes, crosses the bedroom to his closet and tosses a giant

suitcase onto the bed. It hits the remote. TV blares.

He pillages his nightstand next, emptying its contents into the case.

TV REPORTER

I'm not reading this on air. This

Skylar stops and turns to look at the TV. The reporter looks panicked.

TV REPORTER

Ladies and Gentlemen, a viewer has

just presented us with a video. It

depicts those who have been

confirmed dead from the virus

(pause) reanimating and attacking

hospital staff. The images you are

about to watch are extremely gruesome.

A grainy video comes on the TV. It's shaking but the scene is clear. 2 MEN in hospital gowns, pale and drooling, grab a NURSE and bite into her. Blood pours from her wounds as she screams in terror.

Several SECURITY GUARDS rush to restrain them but to no avail. They, too, are bitten in the process of prying the men away from the nurse. Skylar watches the TV. Mesmerized. A hand flies up to his mouth.

SKYLAR

(whispers)

Aiden.

He looks around, throwing things off the bed looking for something. He spots it. His phone! He calls Aiden.

Ring. Ring. Ring.

VOICE MAIL

This is Aiden, leave a message.

SKYLAR

No! Pick up your phone!

Dials again.

It rings.

VOICE MAIL

This is Ai...

He rushes out of the apartment, door slamming shut behind him.

INT. HOSPITAL WAITING ROOM - SHORT TIME LATER

Automatic doors open. Skylar walks into a quiet room. A few PATIENTS sit in uncomfortable looking chairs, some coughing furiously, others slumped over, shaking. The RECEPTIONIST in pastel pink scrubs looks up and smiles at him. Name tag reads: Vickie. He walks over.

SKYLAR

Hey, is Dr. Miller available?

VICKIE

Aiden?

A glance is exchanged. He shakes it off. She looks uncomfortably through charts.

VICKIE

Making rounds on the fourth floor.

Let me just pag...

Skylar rushes down the hall to the elevator.

INT. HOSPITAL HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS

Skylar walks out of the elevator and looks around. He spots Aiden with a chart in his hand, scribbling down notes. He's hunched over, lethargic. Yawn. Shuffle forward.

He walks over to Aiden.

SKYLAR

What are you doing? Haven't seen the news?

Aiden looks at him. Surprise, confusion, a bit of happiness. They whisper.

SKYLAR

Drop the clipboard. Let's go.

AIDEN

We've been really busy. I can't just leave.

SKYLAR

You don't want to be here when

they... I'll explain later, let's just go!

AIDEN

What are you talking about?

SKYLAR

I swear if you don't come with me

right now you will never see me again.

Determination gleams behind Skylar's eyes.

Aiden shakes his head.

Skylar turns and walks away. Heads into the open elevator. Jabs his thumb violently into the button. Ground floor. Doors slid to close.

INT. ELEVATOR – CONTINUOUS

A hand emerges from the other side. Doors open. Aiden steps inside. Skylar reaches over and grabs Aiden's hand, fingers intertwine.

The doors slowly slide to a close. On the other side, a scream is heard.

A GRAY MAN appears in the ever narrowing slit of the elevator. Dead eyes turn to look at the couple. He lunges forward.

FADE TO BLACK.
