I watch the wildflowers bloom

In late summer

As if to say

"Fuck you Mother Nature

We are young

We are free"

I watch them and I smile

The untamed rebellious way

That they whip around

In the steadily cooling breeze

Ignoring the warnings

That autumn fast approaches

Full of spirit

Even as their petals fade

As mine have already

Even as they forget

As they sink low

To the earth

They fight

For their youth

Against all odds

They fight

And never once

Do they slow their pace.
