The Self-Critical Writer

Frozen in a sentence,

Caught in self-doubt,

She's in a trance

With all her self-criticism.

She wants to write

But her mind is obsessed with perfectionism.

Never finishing,

Always rewriting.

Being critical,

It never hurts,

But being overly critical

Does hurt and it diverts

Her energy and effort

Away from finishing.

Never finishing,

Always rewriting.

She worries and worries

That her reader will see a missed plot hole.

She hurries and scurries

To fill in those gaps.

In her hurrying,

She doesn't realize the overlaps

That suddenly appear.

Never finishing,

Always rewriting.

She's never finishing,

But she's always rewriting.
