...mariposa...
( magenta )
-,-'-,-'-,-'-,-'-,-
i buried your corpse in my ribcage like a
scandalous paramour.
flames devoured the pages of old parchment where
i murmured a sonnet to the river.
dawn preached to the sun as jade vines blossomed
against a citadel of rain.
i just wanted to see you become undone while
i kissed your magenta mouth in the middle of a storm
even when we were the only ones dancing.
we were an accident meant to happen.
we were summer and spring,
science and religion,
thunder and lightning.
and this wasn't another shakespearean tragedy.
this was just poetry—chaotic and an inconsequential mess.
the scars were reminders of a memory, fresh and raw.
the bruises told a paperback story and the tattoo on
my forearm spelled your name— a spanish butterfly
singing its own broken symphony.

I will take you to museums, and parks,
and monuments, and kiss you in every beautiful place,
so that you can never go back to them without tasting me
like blood in your mouth.
I will destroy you in the most beautiful way possible.
And when I leave you will finally understand why
storms are named after people." ~ Caitlin Siehl
