Author's Note: Another assignment for creative writing. My first 10-minute play (well, my first play period)! I would really like to expand this one and focus more on Isaac and Izzy in a novel narration in the future, so maybe look out for a future story. cx Also, thank you to BrutieBoots for letting me borrow Isaac and Izzy, characters I made for her for a supernatural story of her own. Maybe our stories will cross paths one day. I sure hope so. cx Hope you enjoy! (:

VENGEANCE

A Play

Characters

ISAAC: 17 years old. Drug-addicted party-goer. Hot-headed, egotistic, and vengeful. IZZY's older brother.

IZZY: 15 years old. Real name Israel, but prefers IZZY. Typical snarky teenager.

Minor Characters:

DARYL: Father of IZZY and ISAAC.

LENA: Mother of IZZY and ISAAC.

Setting

Present day. Takes place in the middle of August. The hour is late, around two in the morning. The television in the modern-styled living room is on, very low, and almost brightens the room. IZZY is sitting on the sofa nearly falling asleep to his television show. Rustling in the background jolts him awake.

IZZY
(looking behind him)
Mom?

(silence)

IZZY (CONT.)
Mom? Dad?

(Silence. IZZY goes back to watching TV. Suddenly there is more shuffling behind him.)

IZZY
(startled and annoyed as he looks behind him)
Hello? Mom? Dad? Are you down here?

(enter ISAAC. He suddenly walks out from behind the wall into the living room. IZZY jumps back out of fear.)

IZZY
(loudly) What are you—?

ISAAC
Shh! You'll wake them up.
(nods towards ceiling)

IZZY
(hushed, but rudely) What the hell are you doing here?

ISAAC
Hey now, that's no way to talk to your big brother, is it Israel?

IZZY
Don't call me that, moron!

ISAAC
(snickers) I'm here to see how my family is fairing without me. It has been a few days.

IZZY
(stares warily) It's two thirty in the morning.

ISAAC
So why are you up?

IZZY
(rolls eyes) It's summer vacation. Why are you?

ISAAC
(scoffs) You know I've never been one for bedtimes, Little Izzy. Besides, I actually have a greater reason for being up late, better than watching Adult Swim anyway.

IZZY
Yeah because apparently you're soooooo important.

ISAAC
(grins) You have no idea.

IZZY
(shakes head) You're a mess. You go out partying, getting shitfaced, snort up every powdery substance you can touch, and do a whole bunch of other fucked up shit that I can only imagine. No wonder Mom and Dad kicked you out.

(ISAAC glares and a low growl escapes his bared teeth. IZZY backs away)

IZZY
What happened to you, dude? The partying has never gotten so out of control. You're a wreck.

ISAAC
I was a wreck. Things are different now.

IZZY
What are you talking about?

ISAAC
Mom and Dad are going to wish they never got rid of me.

IZZY
You're all whacked out. Just stop the drugs and drinking and parties altogether. Mom and Dad will forgive you. You're only seventeen. You're going to mess up your life if you don't stop.

ISAAC
On the contrary, I think I've made myself better.

IZZY
What?

ISAAC
There's a reason why I walk the streets during the dead of night.

IZZY
What the hell are you even talking about?

ISAAC
I'm even greater than before.

IZZY
You're insane. You need help. Just tell Mom and Dad that you'll stop doing all of this. Apologize. They'll let you come home.

ISAAC
(angrily) I don't want to come home! And I will never ever apologize to pathetic beings like them.

(IZZY stares in silent shock.)

ISAAC (CONT.)
You should have seen it. It was terrifying but so exhilarating. I've never felt so powerful.

IZZY
Oh my God, are you shooting up?

ISAAC
(snickers) Pathetic human drugs aren't nearly as amazing as what I have now.

IZZY
Wait, human? What are you talking about?

ISAAC
I'm a different person now, Izzy.

IZZY
You keep saying that. What the hell do you mean? What kind of drugs are you taking?

ISAAC
(snarling) I'm not taking any drugs! I've been turned.

IZZY
(confused) Turned? What the hell does that mean?

ISAAC
Ever heard of vampirism?

IZZY
(in disbelief) Oh my God, you are completely screwed up in the head.

ISAAC
They exist, Izzy.

IZZY
You're insane.

ISAAC
I met one.

IZZY
You need help.

ISAAC
I am one.

IZZY
(pauses) Isaac, you really need to go get help. Go to rehab. Talking about vampires and shit. Jesus Christ. How long has this been going on?

ISAAC
You don't believe me?

IZZY
(laughs) A-ha! Oh sure, Isaac! I believe you're a pale, blood-sucking spawn of Dracula that sleeps in coffins and is afraid of sunlight. Of course I believe it!

ISAAC
(glares) How dare you patronize me.

IZZY
Give it up, Isaac. You need professional help even more now if you believe you're a fucking vampire.

(With remarkable speed, ISAAC suddenly appears in front of him, and IZZY is taken aback.)

ISAAC
(whispering into IZZY's ear) Would you like me to prove it to you?

(Parting from IZZY, ISAAC grins widely, exposing pointed fangs. IZZY's breathing heightens when he witnesses ISAAC's eyes turn a glowing red.)

IZZY
(barely an audible whisper) What happened to you?

ISAAC
I was turned.

IZZY
Vampires don't exist.

ISAAC
Well I'm here.

IZZY
You're just a junkie. You're messed up in the head. We all saw you walking into the house two nights after that party you ran off to. You were a wreck. You were pale and there were bags under your eyes. You acted like it was nothing, but, man, Mom and Dad were so pissed. The vodka on your breath could be smelled a mile away.

(shakes his head and sighs)

IZZY (CONT.)
And then every night that week you were gone. Disappearing without telling anybody where you were going, or that you were going to be gone in the first place. At least before you'd announce and brag to me that you were going to the raddest party and that you were going to meet super-hot girls and everything. But since then, you're just gone. You don't even talk to me anymore. And yeah, we fight and throw blows, but I really don't like this, man.

(ISAAC stares at him, eyes returning to his normal color.)

ISAAC
(softly) Come with me.

IZZY
What?

ISAAC
Come with me. I can turn you.

IZZY
(scoffs) You're so pathetic. You and your fucking drugs.

ISAAC
I told you, I'm not doing drugs, not anymore.

IZZY
I find that extremely hard to believe.

ISAAC
The power is amazing, Izzy. You'd love it. To run, to hunt, to satiate your thirst. It's the biggest thrill. Come with me, Little Izzy.

IZZY
I'm not going anywhere with you. You better just go before I go upstairs and wake Mom and Dad. I'll call the cops while I'm at it so they can take you to rehab.

ISAAC
I'm afraid waking Mom and Dad will do nothing for you.

IZZY
(warily) What the hell do you mean?

(ISAAC smirks.)

IZZY (CONT.)
(louder) I said, what the hell do you mean?

(A thump is heard upstairs. IZZY darts up the stairs to his parents' room and slams the door open to reveal his parents tied up in bondage, muffling frantically through gags. LENA is slamming her back against the headboard. IZZY stares at them in fear and rushes to help them.)

IZZY
(screaming) What the hell is going on?!

(He tugs on his mother's gag.)

IZZY (CONT.)
Mom! Dad! Are you okay?

(He manages to get his mother's gag off, but she widens her eyes and screams. IZZY turns to see ISAAC standing in the doorway, his eyes bright red and grinning so wide that his fangs are showing.)

ISAAC
You're right. It is more fun when they put up a fight. (chuckles)

IZZY
(screaming again) You're a sick fuck!

ISAAC
Now, now, that is no way to speak in front of your mother.

LENA
You are sick! What has gotten into you, Isaac? What the hell is wrong with you?

(IZZY moves to pull off his father's gag.)

IZZY
He claims he's a vampire.

DARYL
(coughing) Vampire?

LENA
(trembling) Look at his eyes.

DARYL
What's wrong with your teeth?

ISAAC
(smirks) You guys thought I was just on some super insane high that night I came home, but you were wrong. You were upset that I was leaving in the dead of night without telling you, without "respecting your house rules," thinking I was hitting up every party that was rumored to be happening. You all were so, so wrong. (chuckles darkly) Nope. Instead I was snatching any poor lonely slut waiting on the curbside in the slums of town, delighting in the wonders of rich, thick, red blood, soothing my throat and filling my body with satisfaction.

(He chuckles and tilts his head, looking at IZZY.)

ISAAC (CONT.)
Do you believe me now, Little Izzy?

DARYL
Untie me, Izzy. And call the police!

(IZZY proceeds to try to untie the knots in the rope around DARYL.)

DARYL (CONT.)
(directed to ISAAC) You are not my son, you madman.

ISAAC
(mocking) Oh, I'm so sad.

DARYL
You're going to get locked up. Oh-ho, just you wait. Hurry up will you, Izzy?

IZZY
I'm trying! They're fucking tight!

DARYL
Just you wait. You little punk-ass. Your mother and I tried our best, but even we couldn't raise you to be as half decent as we wished.

(ISAAC glares and within the blink of an eye appears beside his mother, his hand wrapped around her throat, his face nearing her neck.)

LENA
(screams)

IZZY
Let go of her!

ISAAC
Why? I'll always be a fuck-up, right Dad? I've never been so smart and great like precious Israel, huh? Never got good grades, never been rewarded, always been spanked and punished and yelled at. Always the fuck-up.

DARYL
(weakly) That's not true. We love you.

ISAAC
(yelling) Oh cut the bullshit! I know you're lying. You were right about one thing. You couldn't save me from being "indecent." You couldn't save me from anything. And now you won't be able to save dear, dear, precious Mommy.

(ISAAC dives into LENA's neck and dark red blood erupts from her jugular. IZZY impulsively reaches over to save her, but ISAAC snarls inhumanely at him and smacks him with great force away. IZZY falls to the floor and knocks his head on the edge of the tableside, briefly knocked out. DARYL is screaming, still tied up and sitting beside LENA. LENA's screams soon subside and she falls limp.)

DARYL
(weeping) You're a monster! A fucking insane monster!

ISAAC
(cooing) Oooh, Daddy, you really shouldn't be talking to me that way. I might just—

(He places a bloody hand around DARYL's wrist and twists it unnaturally.)

DARYL
(screams in agony)

ISAAC
(chuckles) –break your wrist.

(IZZY begins to moan from the floor and starts coming to. He sees ISAAC grasping his father's throat and stares in horror as ISAAC lunges for his jugular. DARYL screams in pain.)

IZZY
(screaming) No Isaac! Stop!

(IZZY reaches for DARYL, but ISAAC grasps his arm and twists it, shattering his bones.)

IZZY
(cries in agony and holds on to his arm, falling to his knees beside the bed.)

(DARYL becomes silent and limp. ISAAC reaches down to lift IZZY up by his broken arm. IZZY erupts in agonizing cries.)

ISAAC
It's your turn.

IZZY
(weakly) Why?

ISAAC
You can come with me.

IZZY
No.

(ISAAC stares at IZZY pitifully for a prolonged moment. He drops him to the ground. IZZY yelps.)

ISAAC
You'll regret not joining me, but I won't kill you. You weren't the one who kicked me out and disowned me. You weren't the one who looked down and sneered at me. You were always there.

IZZY
(glaring) Was.

(End scene.)
