AN: Hello anyone who reads this! So just a few things before I begin. The breaks in any chapters from here on out represent flashbacks. If there are any holes that don't make sense, it is because they will revealed later! :) Review please!

"Do you think he was trying to miss?"

Her direct question brought me out of my day dream. I'd been casually mumbling responses to her questions about how I felt while observing her dimly lit office. Her book case sitting behind her was full of books on individual studies and the human psyche. I would use anything I could to make the hour pass by faster to get me out and back to my life than answer her probing questions.

"It doesn't matter if he was trying to miss."

"And why is that?" she asked, writing as she spoke. I'd kill to read her notepad.

"When a man shoots at my pregnant wife, I don't care what his intentions were when he had a gun pointed towards her."

"You were there, correct? When he shot her? Tell me what happened." I really didn't want to answer her question, but I hadn't spoken of what had happened that night to anyone since it occurred three weeks ago.

"Um… yes. We were both trying to talk him down. I mean… I arrived later. I followed them. I felt like I should follow her after she followed him out of the hospital. They were at his house. I walked in with James pointing the gun to his head while she was standing across from him… about twenty feet I think, it was dark. He wouldn't let her come closer. She was crying, verging on hysterical, trying to get him to put the gun down and let her help him. That's when I came up the stairs, and he saw me."

"And what happened? How did Mona react?"

"She told me to go back downstairs, but I wasn't having it." I stopped to run my hand over my head and scratched my neck. I didn't like what we were talking about and the farther we were getting into it, the anger began to rise.

"Did you?"

"I stopped at the top of the stairs. I looked from her to James and back again. I felt we were all frozen in this triangle for eternity, so I took a step towards James."

"Is that when he shot?"

"No… He jerked the gun from his head and pointed it at her."

"Don't come any closer to me Jack…"

I froze. I couldn't believe what was happening. If he was going to kill himself that was his choice, but I never expected him to bring Mona into this.

"James, don't point that at her. C'mon, just sit the gun down." Mona was crying in the corner. I could hear her, but could barely see her. The only light we had was from the moon, streaming in through the windows. I didn't know what to say to him to calm him down. I worked in a hospital, where I dealt with the results of situations like this, but there wasn't a high stressed situation in my life that could have ever prepared me for this.

"Jack, you leave, I'll let Mona follow you, and you two can just leave me here… And you can go off and have your happy little life with your baby, but you need to leave first." If he wasn't crying, I could tell he was on the verge of tears.

"Jamie… just put… put the gun down. Please." Mona breathed through her sobs. "Please."

"I can't…" he whispered. "Just go, Jack."

"I'm not leaving James, just put th—" He fired. Mona screamed. Anguish swept through my body like an explosion beginning at my heart and sweeping to my toes. He began to turn the gun towards his head. Before I knew what was happening, I was charging him. I grabbed his hand forcing the gun down. Another shot was fired; I fell to the ground on top of him. I rolled over as I heard him gasp for air and saw the shine from the blood in the moonlight as it poured from his side.

"And you saved his life? Were you not angry?" She gave me a look of slight confusion.

"He was my best friend."
