Chapter 19: Interrogation
A great philosopher once said that humans avoid pain and seek pleasure. I'm beginning to think that he was wrong as I just finished breaking every bone in his left hand. The small light hanging overhead is the only light in this room which is fixated over Mr. Felipe. Blood drops from his lip and sweat shines in the light. The room smells of dried blood and something burning. Mr. Felipe managed to survive two days of torture. Of course, I haven't used the drug yet.
"I can do this all day Mr. Felipe, it's just a matter of you staying conscious for me to do this."
"*sigh* You little chink. Do you honest think that a few broken bones are enough for me to speak?"
"I can do worse."
I kick his chair over and grab the towel next to me. I place the towel over and grab the bucket full of ice-cold water. I pour the water on him and he begins choking. The bucket empties and I lift the towel from him. He breathes in heavily after the ordeal but he doesn't look like he's ready to talk.
"The deal is still on you know, I'll give you freedom and you tell me what I want."
"Do you think that the General will keep me alive? He has spies and cells throughout the world. It only takes one to kill me. I would rather wait for my rescue than be killed for my betrayal."
I open the fridge and take out the drug. It's about time anyway. I inject him with the drug and wait for the effects to take place. His eyes begin watering and he thrusts the chair back and forth until his head falls forward. I grab him by the hair and lift it up. His eyes are closed and I slap him a few times to make sure he isn't faking it. He's unconscious. I let go and leave the room. I enter the bathroom and wash my hands. I have blood all over my clothes. I should change and grab the healing unit. I enter my bedroom and change into a black shirt and jeans. I reenter the interrogation room with the healing unit and deploy it. The room is filled with a blue light and Mr. Felipe wounds are healed. The technology of nano machines is truly amazing. I close the unit and put it away. It's already night-time here and the moon is shining brightly outside. I can't help but remember that day now that I'm alone. What was he thinking getting himself killed? On top of that, relying on me to finish what he started. I can remember what he did in the past except for a few parts. I remember dying but I can't remember what happened before that. I wonder why?
"Sir" Navi says.
"You seem to be worried. Would talking help?"
"I'm fine. It's nothing you need to worry about."
"Then may I talk to you?"
"Thank you. I was wondering about this sir, why did you create me?"
"Why did I create you? It's more accurate to say that Sanada-san created you."
"But you are him"
"I'm not him but I can tell you why he created you."
I explain to Navi why Sanada-san created her. She was the first A.I. purely created from data. He wanted a way to make an A.I without using emotions or feelings. He felt that people shouldn't live without emotions or feelings but still have a companion.
"And that's why he created me?"
"Then why haven't I ever been outside besides now?"
"You're important to him. He knew that you might get lost. He wanted to train you before he let you go. You know how he felt when he lost Natalie. He thinks of everyone like they're family."
"He thought of me like that?"
"Yeah, I can't imagine how he's feeling right now though."
"What is it?"
I touch my eyes and feel a drop of water. I realize that tears are slowly emptying from my eyes and that I'm crying. But why?
"Navi, may you leave?"
"Yes sir. If you need me, call."
Navi's digital body leaves and I'm left alone. I drop my elbows on the wooden rail of the veranda and put my hands over my face. I cry for a reason I don't know. I'm confused and I don't know why.
