Hello all! This is my first story, so I am really looking forward to getting reviews that can help me to improve my writing skills. The plot of this story was just something my sister and I made up one day, but it stuck and I decided to create a story out of it. I hope you enjoy this first chapter. I plan on updating with a new chapter every week. So lets start shall we?
I was lucky enough to wander across this quaint little cafe on my way back from work. I ordered a small caramel macchiato and got a chocolate chip cookie to go with it. What can I say? Sweets are like my weakness. Glancing outside as I took a seat next to the window, I caught a glimpse of the long and narrow alley that was just across the street. From what I had learned the night before, my target would be arriving shortly. I finished my coffee, ate the cookie, and made my way towards the black, forgotten path, dribbling my palm sized ball.
"Have a nice day!" the cafe clerk said.
"Thank you, you tool" I said with a smile on my face.
I finally made it to the mouth of the dark alley, and just as I had thought, my target stood near the corner, nothing but a dark figure.
"So you must be the infamous Jake McFlannigan the press seems so obsessed with am I right?" I asked him.
"Heh, heard of me have ya? Well I can't deny that now, I am indeed. But who might you be sweetie?" the shadowed figure asked as a grin spread across his face.
I dribbled my trusty ball onto the ground again.
Thump, thump, thump
"It seems as though you are responsible for a number of murders in the area, so I think it's safe to say your time is just about up."
"Oh really? I wouldn't be so sure. But that still doesn't answer my original question, who are you?" he asked accusingly.
"Funny, you might of heard of me as well, the press has decided to name me...Briar Rose…" I heard a gasp of realization from the cornered shadow.I gracefully threw my ball up into the air and a flash of light showered mist over the man, causing him to collapse onto the ground as I caught my ball. The man was now cursed to an everlasting sleep that has no cure. I placed a white rose on his chest, and just before I left, I turned to face him one last time, a grin now spreading across my face. "You know something else funny? I believe you had heard of me as well, seeing as your last breaths were used for your gasp of recognition of my name. Sleep well Sir"
And with that, I turned back to the busy street, and dribbled my ball as I made my way home.
This is something I do in my free time. Murdering innocent souls? Wrong. Hunting down those who have. Not killing them like a senseless monster, but cursing them to a deep, and unbreakable sleep for all eternity. I guess you could call me a bounty hunter. Yet seeing as I have little to no time for this, the other hours of my day are spent teaching and planning. That's right, as a matter of fact, I just happen to be a high school literature instructor. My name is Elena Rosette, and other than the fact that I hunt down criminals, I have a pretty normal life.
The next morning I woke up at the same time as usual 6:00 am, got ready, and turned on the T.V. as I was eating my breakfast, just a piece of toast with jam, I was pretty excited because I saw the news about the infamous criminal, Briar Rose, and she just happen to strike again! Haha! Apparently the officer that is investigating the case is the chief of police, James Jackson. I better stay away from him for a while, just until I get to know him better. I turned off the TV, and headed for work, because there is going to be a big test today, and I wanted to see if my students studied…
Nope, they didn't study, just as I thought. the only A that was scored on the test came from a student named Isabelle Andrews, she is one great student, good grades in all her classes perfect in all subjects, sometimes even smarter than me, impressive. All my other students always, I repeat always get C's or D's. I just don't understand why though. I create such great study guides they don't even pay attention to them. If only they knew that I put the answers to some of the questions on the test in the study guide, they would atleast get passing grades. I didn't realize that I was daydreaming until I noticed that I had a chair above my head, and I think I was just about to throw it. My students looked at me as if I was a lunatic, just then a knock came from the door, I put the chair down and said "Come in". A school aid walked up to me and handed me a slip of paper, I read it, so there was going to be a presentation today… hmm. The class and I headed toward the auditorium, and I always stood in the back, but the whole class decided to take the front seats. I headed towards to another teacher nearby, I asked her what the presentation was about, and she said it was a presentation about being safe, and doing the right thing, to me that sounded pretty cheesey, but then she told me that there was going to be a guest, and that guest happen to be the chief of police. " Great, just great" I muttered, I don't know why, but a lot of the female teachers seem to like this guy, they think hes…"Hot"... I highly doubt it. Just then I realized that the presentation had just begun. I really tend to space out a lot I thought with a chuckle. The presentation was boring, " Now, let's welcome our guest, the chief of police, James Jackson" the principal said. "I can't wait to hear what he has to say" I thought sarcastically.
" Hello everyone, like you just heard, I am officer Jackson, and I'm here to answer your questions about… the Briar Rose…".
Thank you for reading this first chapter :D So what'd you think? Too long? Too short? Any reviews would be greatly appreciated!
