Gossip rushes through a school

Fast as a raging river.

It doesn't matter.

An unmade reputation

Is easily tarnished

With false lies

Created by a hopeful leap of faith.

Looking for a friend

Can ruin a life if perceived wrong.

Histories unknown

By a new, innocent student

Unwarned, ignored.

Rumors and resulting jeers

Lingering for years

Like a ghost

No matter how hard you try to get rid of them.

So be careful who you trust;

Be cautious of how you act.

For it doesn't matter what it really was,

What you really meant.

Those hallways,

Supposed to project safety,

Can quickly morph to dreaded

Prison bars.
