Honesty is indigo blue,

Like a pale hand of trust and truth;

It is the scrupulous respect for truth,

The willingness never to deceive

Oneself or any other.

A dishonest life brings temporary gain,

But forsakes the permanent,

As well as the trust of fellow men.

Honesty hurts like stomach pains sometimes,

But is sweet as sugar on the tongue,

For while a hard truth can cause brief suffering,

A soft lie ultimately brings disillusionment.
