The Kindness of Stars

I once knew a boy

Who was like a star

Beautiful

And

Utterly

Unobtainable

And everywhere he walked

That beautiful boy

The girls would stop

And stare

Because no one that perfect

That wondrous

Could really exist

Every time he laughed

His eyes would sparkle

Blue sapphires set with

Golden curls

Angelic

When he spoke

When he sang

All the girls would swoon

Base sweet as honey

Smooth as silk

Angelic

Every step

Every breath

The world stood waiting

Waiting for its star

.

I once knew a boy

Who was like a star

Beautiful

And

Utterly

Unobtainable

Where he trod

Seas would follow

For to be near him

Was to to be near fame

Yet he was oblivious

To the admirers

To all the girls who

Spent their days

Weeks

Just to catch a glimpse

Just to hope for

A hug

A smile

A nod

Anything to make them feel like

They exist

To this beautiful

Unobtainable

Boy

.

I once knew a boy

Who was like a star

Beautiful

And

Utterly

Unobtainable

Who stood far above

The world below

As the world stretched up

To grasp him

Like blades of grass

Growing ever towards his light

They would do

Anything

But he was

Oblivious

To all except one

Not in sea nor sky

Not star nor comet

Nor dazzling supernova

But a simple

Worn down

Patch of dirt

No grass grew there

Caked and yellowed

Yet he felt compelled

Compelled to help

To nurture

To love

What could not

.

I once knew a boy

Who was like a star

Beautiful

And

Utterly

Unobtainable

Who became enraptured

With one

Patch of dirt

That patch

Was not evil

But rather

Caught

In her own desert

Attracted

To the worms that

Crawled

In her space

Ate

Through her soul

Only to leave her with holes

Weak

To her own need for

Gratification

Hardened

To the kindness

Of stars

And so

The dirt shunned the light

Refused to grow

And stretch her arms

But the star still shined

Impervious

Oblivious

While the seas roiled

And wept

In their sadness

Their mourning

Because how could he not see

Not see how much better

He could do

How much more

He deserved

.

And he did

.

He deserved so much better

.

I once knew a boy

Who was like a star

He shone

Bright

Brilliant

In gossamer films

That no one could grasp

Or understand

Too kind

Too pure

Too naïve

That boy

With his eyes clouded

By stars of their own

That he can't see

The cold

Hard

Dirt

So he misses

The

Soothing

Waving

Sea

And all those who love him

Would love him

If given the chance

Any chance

Yet they wander

Aimless

In hopes that the dirt dries up

And flies away

Because how could he not see

All those who love him

.

But the boy I knew

The boy like a star

Couldn't change his nature

In his heart

No matter how hard he tried

As certain

As the sunrise

That would drown him out

A vicious

Vicious

Cycle of fate

That he

Like a star

Sought to be

With his own

A truth

That he just

Couldn't

See

Loving his

Patch of dirt

That would

Forever

Be

Unobtainable.
