I take a step into the restaurant and look for an empty seat. I find one close to the window in a secluded area. A guy with short, spikey, bleach blonde hair comes up to take my order. "Hey my name is Lucas and I will be waiting on you today. What would you like?" He says not even looking at me. He seems bored and like he wants to leave.
"Um I guess I will have a hot chocolate." I say quietly. He scribbles on his notepad and walks away. There is something different about him that is pulling me in. I really don't want to be pulled in. I just want my wall between people and me to stay up and not be broken down.
He walks back to my table and says, "Here is your hot chocolate. Would you like anything else?" He looks at me and I notice he has the most vibrant green eyes I have ever seen. "No I think I have everything I want." I say and look out the window.
"Well my shift ends in 5 minutes and I was wondering if you maybe wanted to talk a little bit." He asks nervously. I giggle. "You don't even know my name. Why would you want to get to know me?" I ask.
"Well, what's your name? And there is just something that... I don't know... You just seem so different to me and I like it." He says with a slight blush creeping up on the back of his neck.
"Taylor." I say barely audible. I can already tell this wall is starting to crumble.
After his shift was over he came and sat at my table. "So tell me about yourself." He says.
"Um well, my name is Taylor Madison. I'm 19 years old. I'm going to college for theater, like singing and acting. And there isn't much to me, so that's about it. I have always wondered why people bother with love because it almost never lasts." I say. I don't want to give him too much information because I don't even know him.
"That's it? Come on there has to be more to you than just that." Lucas says trying to coax me into telling him more.
"Well, I don't trust people easily and I can blame my parents for that." I say and realize I said too much.
"Why are they to blame?" He asks.
"I don't really want to talk about it right now. Tell me about yourself." I say trying to change the subject from me to him.
"Well My name is Lucas Scott, as you know. I'm 20 years old. I'm from a REALLY small town and I don't plan on going back anytime soon. I work here part time to pay off college fees. I'm going to college for graphic design. I totally believe in love at first sight. And I know I really like you. Why don't we go somewhere quieter and relaxing?" He says and I blush about his second to last sentence.
"Like where?" I ask cautiously.
"Like the lake. We can just sit there by the water and talk?" He responds.
"How do I know you aren't some crazy stalker? How do I know I can trust you?" I ask.
"That is something only you will know. Only you will know if you can trust me." He says getting up. He walks over to me and whispers in my ear, "I will be by the lake. I'm there is you think you can trust me." With that he leaves. I sit there and wonder if I can trust him. I have never been able to trust guys after what my father did to my mother. He would always call him from the bar drunk and mother would have to leave and pick him up. When they got home she would always have a new bruise somewhere on her body and fresh tear marks on her cheeks. I never trusted my dad or any other guy in my family. I have never had a friend that is a guy. I think it's worth a shot and get up to go to the lake. The only thing is, I CAN'T LET MY GUARD DOWN! I get in my car and drive to the lake. I have no clue where Lucas could be so I go to the place I go to think. The rocks. I pull up and step out of the car. I lock the doors and walk ot the shore. I sit there and watch the wave's crash against the rocks.
"So i guess you can trust me now." I hear a deep voice behind me. I immediately tense up. "Relax Taylor. It's just me, Lucas."
I sigh. "Well I guess it was worth a shot coming here."
"So what do you want to do when you get out of college?" Lucas asks me. I shrug. "Not really sure. I mean I'm going for theater. I want to be a singer and/or an actress, but the odds of that are slim. What about you?" I ask.
"A graphic designer, but since they don't make much money I will have a side job like working in an office building or something." He replied. I nod. "So, I still know almost nothing about you."
"We'll maybe we should ask each other questions." I suggest.
"Okay. I will go first. Favorite color?" He asks.
"Blue always has and always will. You?" I ask.
"Pink! You seem like a girl who would like the color pink!" He says.
I giggle. "Ew, I hate pink! Favorite place to just get away from everything?" I ask.
"Probably my office. It helps me keep focus. You?" He replies.
"Here. It's so relaxing and peaceful! Staring at the waves just make me forget all of my problems." I say, looking out to the water. I shiver. I hadn't noticed it was getting dark already. Oh well. Lucas notices that I'm a little cold, so he moves closer to me and puts his arm around me. I tense up,but then I relax because his arms are so warm and they feel like they were meant to be around. Great, there goes more of my wall crumpling down.
"You wanna do something fun?" He asks with a smirk on his face.
"Depends." I reply, kinda scared.
"Let's go swimming!" He says.
"Uh if you can't read, the sign clearly say 'NO SWIMMING'" I say.
"Who cares what the sign says? It kills all the fun!" He says, trying to get me in the water.
"But we don't have bathing suits." I snap.
"You have clothes on. Who cares if you get them wet? They will dry.
"Fine, but if we get in trouble, don't plan on talking to me." I say getting up.
We run into the water. I have to admit, this is pretty fun. Someone has made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter and I'm loving it.
