Castle in the Sky
Opening: Castle in the Sky-DJ Satomi
Chapter One: It Begins
Way up in the sky, unseen by the naked eye is a floating island that continuously moves where the wind blows it. The steep cliffs lead up to beautifully kept and neat green grass. On one side of the island is a small forest with a trail that leads through it and benches scattered throughout. The trail leads back to gardens that are masterfully and artistically maintained. Towards the left side of the island is a huge and majestic castle. Towers and steeples rise up to pierce the skies. Everything seems serenely peaceful as not a single light burns. Then an explosion resonates through the air and the cries begin to rise up.
Guards run all over the palace in a panic as a young man wearing green armor with black trim walks through the hallways, a small contingent of guards following him. His shoulder pads flare black, as does his boots and gloves. A beautifully carved black and green scabbard adorns his waist. In his right hand is the sword that usually rests in it, its soft glowing blue light creating shadows in the corridors. His blond hair flows down around his shoulders, framing a perfectly firm jaw, his cheekbones high and proud. His blue eyes scan around.
"Find the princess," he calls. "Only she has the key to the barrier. Trust no one. We don't know who may be friend or foe." The guards scatter as he continues his trek through the many hallways of the palace. "Come on out, Princess. I won't harm you."
His head jerks as he sees movement off to his left. He sees a flare of white go around the nearest corner. He steps around the corner to see a young girl running as fast as she can down the corridor. Her short brown hair waving wildly as the small tiara in her hair barely hangs on. Her white dress is extremely clean, crystal lace adorning all the edges, her glass slippers clicking on the floor. She looks back with a scared look on her face revealing the loveliest green eyes, like jades had been plucked right out of the ground, and perfectly placed in her eye sockets. Her small soft lips tremble slightly as she runs down the hall. A small thin cord hangs around her neck with the most beautiful crystal ever crafted hanging from it.
"Come, princess. I have no time for games." He begins walking down the corridor after her. "There's nowhere to hide. I will not harm you."
He looks ahead as she continues to look back at him running. His eyes widen. "Princess! Look out!"
She turns in time to see to see that she is approaching an open window, a small lattice balcony adorning it. She can barely scream as she collides with it and flips over.
The young man runs to the window and looks down into space at the surface far below. "ADELAIDE!"
He does not see the soft blue glow that flares up around her as she falls.
Penelope lets out a sigh as she emerged from the school's steel doors. Finally, school is out for three months. Nothing but fun in the sun! She stretched her arms towards the sky, breathing in the sweet warm air.
"Penny!" She turned as she heard her name called to see her best friend, Janet running towards her. "Any plans?" she asked, catching up with Penny.
"I'm going to sleep as soon as I get home," Penny said. "I'm catching up on some sleep. Then at noon tomorrow, my summer officially begins." Her thoughts turned to her game systems, mangas, animes, and books.
"My mom and I are thinking of going down to the beach next weekend. My cousin Jared is coming up to meet us. He has a camper with all the modern comforts of home for fun on the beach. Wanna come?"
"I'll have to see what I'm doing next weekend," Penny said, staring ahead. "My parents may have plans of their own."
"You mean your foster parents?"
"They're the only parents I know so, as far as I'm concerned, they are my parents."
"Whatever," she waved at Penny and ran off. "Anyways, gotta get home. Tonight is barbecue ribs from the grill. YUMMY!"
Penny giggled and then set off towards home. Her trip took her through an abandoned part of town. She looked around wildly as she heard noises here or there.
She turned as she heard a brick fall. Coming towards her was a girl with short brown hair and green eyes. Her white dress was all torn and dirty and she had no shoes on.
The girl saw her and ran towards her. "Help me!" she cried. Penny gasped in surprise as the girl slammed into her, wrapping her arms around her waist, and pressing her head into Penny's chest. Penny tried to push the girl off her. "Please. Help me. They're after me."
"Who's after you?" Penny asked, still trying to pry the girl away from her.
"I don't know. They just started yelling and running at me."
"Maybe I can take you home. Where do you live?"
"I don't know. I just know it's not around here."
Penny pulled out her cellphone, struggling all the while with the girl wrapped around her, and opened the internet. "Tell me who you are. I can look it up."
"I don't know," the girl replied again, large tears rolling down her cheeks. "I don't know anything."
Penny looked up as she heard scrambling. Three men in armor descended out of the abandoned houses, followed by a blond-haired man in green armor. He stepped out onto the street. "Adelaide," he called. "You must come with me."
The girl squealed as she ran around behind Penny, cowering behind her, peeking out over Penny's shoulders.
Penny adjusted her glasses, brushing her long red hair away from her face. "I don't know who you are, but as you can see, she's terrified of you," she stated, her knees trembling, fighting to sound as brave as she could. "So please move on."
The man stood up straight. "I will not have commoners stand in my way. My mission is to apprehend her...by any means necessary." He put his hand onto the hilt of his sword.
The girl stood behind Penny, shaking her head back and forth. "Please...please..."
Penny spread her arms out, as if to shield the girl. "She doesn't want to go with you. If you want her, you'll have to go through me."
The man stood there a second, as if deep in thought. "Very well," he said, drawing his sword. "I gave you the opportunity to leave. Now, you die." He drew his arm back, preparing to charge.
"FREEZE!" came a cry from above them. They all looked up to see a woman with long blue hair standing there. She wore a visor that stretched across her face. She wore blue leather armor with ERP stamped here and there on the shoulders and above her right breast. She held in her hand a giant gun. "The law strictly prohibits people from beyond the border to engage in the real world. I, Angela Christine Darmagon, hereby command you to cease and desist all activities, as authorized by the Earth Reality Police force! You are all under arrest!"
