Rin

I returned to my friends house and gave her the groceries, stating that I should go back home now. I grabbed my bags bowed and left.

Returning home, I didn't see Vincent anywhere, and I figured he went home. I ran up the stairs and went to my room, thinking of my strange encounter that night. I looked out my window and I could've sworn I saw a red and blue eye peering through the trees of my backyard, as well as a man with red eyes. I could only smile. I wasn't sure why, but a familiar pang came to my heart. That was Alex, and Frey.

The next day had arrived, and I went for my "Sunday" walk, realizing that tomorrow was school. I sighed but a soft hum left my lips as I walked my way down the soft, grassy trail that led towards one of my favorite places.

The Flower Meadow.

Ever since I was young, I always used to come here to enjoy the beautiful sight of the many different kinds of flower. Be it the gentle winds, the shining suns, or the peaceful environment, I had always felt drawn to this place. Yet...something always seemed off. It always seemed as if something was watching me, yet it strangely made me feel protected rather than scared.

Today, however, something was definitely wrong. Only I knew about the secret little flower meadow hidden away in a grove of trees...but yet my eyes fell upon a young man, who looked about my age, laying upon the grass on his back, eyes closed and hands behind his head. He was very tall, black coat, black pants, blue tank top.

His long, silvery blue hair flown out behind him...But what caught my interest the most was the grass and plants around him. Some were glistening with frost, while the ones he were nearest to were completely frozen. I hated to imagine what the ones he were laying on looked like.

I was torn between running in fear or approaching the strange young man...Something seemed like it was drawing me towards him. And before I knew it, I was by his side, gazing at him with curios, non-fearful eyes. He didn't stir awake, however, and I only continued to gaze at him before clearing your throat.

"Er...uhm...who are you?"

For a long while, it was pure silence, and I began to grow irritated, thinking he hadn't heard me, or he was ignoring me. But finally, one eye craned open.

"...Go away." And just like that, his eye closed again.

I twitched, growing even more irritated. Just who did this guy think he was?!

"You're not supposed to be here!" I soon yelled. But strangely, the boy recoiled, like I had struck at him with a weapon, his eyes both now opening, wide and surprised. Before they slowly narrowed, darkening and suddenly seeming almost hurt.

"...I know."

I was confused. His words were almost like he was speaking to himself. But suddenly, I yelped, a biting cold getting to me. Looking at my arms, I saw them being frosted over with a thin sheen of ice. W-what was this!? The mysterious stranger watched me, frowning slightly as he soon got up.

"I'm sorry...That is my fault." I tilted my head, seeming confused. "I...am cursed...cursed with not only immortality...but with being given the 'gift' of ice." He said, and I felt even more confused. Wait, don't tell me this is the rumor of the Ice Wizard? I was at a loss for words as he suddenly went to pick up a flower, and as he did, it turned to pure, cold ice before shattering. He gave a sigh, sounding almost defeated.

"I can only admire their beauty from afar...If I ever get to close, that beauty would shatter and vanish...Just like everything else would..." His words seemed so sad. It suddenly became clear to me...That feeling that someone was watching me…

"It was you." I suddenly said, "You were always there...watching me, watching the meadow." I suddenly remembered a long while ago a single flower I had been tending to for months to grow. It was a rare type of rose, and it was nearly in bloom. However, a blizzard had soon came across the town, and I could only watch from inside as I thought about my poor, meadow. When you returned the next day, the meadow was disastrous...except for my Rose, not a single flake of snow or ice on it.

I then became aware of how lonely this boy must have been. If his touch did that to flowers...what would it do to a live, breathing being? But, I suddenly didn't care anymore. It was stupid, yes...But he looked so sad, so lonely. There was no greater curse than having to watch something you would never attain for yourself, and for him, it was companionship. I reached out to gently touching his shoulder, and his eyes widened. "No, you mustn't-" He was cut off as my fingers touched his shoulder, my warmth and his coldness meeting. I felt a shooting, cold pain travel up my fingers, but I didn't pull my hand away.

"You don't have to be alone anymore. Let's be friends!" I suggested.

"F-friends?"

"Yeah! I'm Andea! What's your name?"

The boy looked at me as if I was crazy, but at the same time, it had been hundreds of years since he had felt actual live warmth, let alone talked to someone. I could see the faintest ghost of a smile on his lips, even if I had the impression of such a cold and heartless boy only a few minutes ago.

"...Rin. My name is Rin."

"Well its nice to meet you Rin." I smiled with my eyes closed and when I opened my eyes, to my surprise, there he was, smiling. I was going to tell him that he was smiling but I didn't want to ruin the moment. That was probably the first time he smiled in years. I continued smiling, not knowing what time it was.

I looked down at my watch seeing that it was 2:00 p.m. "Oh my gosh!" I yelped. "I'm sorry Rin, but I gotta go! Maybe I'll see you again soon." I started walking away, waving bye.
