my eyes scan the world around me
cautiously
iridescent green beetles pacing through the snow
back and forth they go
I'm feeling like a skeptic

so much misery
it makes me cringe
I feel my grip is slowly slipping
my claws release the branch and
without a choice I fall away

my wings are pinned
instead of flying
I plummet
what will I find?

the ground is getting closer
at the surface we keep scratching
endlessly we dig for nothing;
we search but never find

don't make me rake
this disappointing earth
let me jump into the sea
let the current take me somewhere
let the water set me free

trade my talons in for scales
these wings weren't made for me
