Strong and True

You beat me with your words,

Your fists, your sticks;

You beat me with everything you had.

You held me in bittersweet blurs,

Trapped me beneath burning bricks,

And brought forth all of your bad.

But not once did I falter;

I never did fall,

Because I'm stronger than you knew.

You could never alter

What made me stand tall,

Because I'm the one who held strong and true.

You thought you could make light

Of everything held dear to me;

You were so lost in your pride.

You never knew that I'd fight

For whom I want to be.

You never killed me, because I refuse to die.
