Iron Age Romantic Tragedy: Guest Starring Dire Strait's "Hand in Hand"

I never learned the art of war,

never fought to live.

So now my weakness takes me from

joy that I can't give.

Legends and heroes of old, I beg you,

give me the power to defend the one

whom I love above all others. Too few

days have elapsed wherein we met none

that wished to slay us and ruin our fun.

Though I try, I cannot take this for long,

and so parting, I leave him with our song:

"If I've been hard on you

I never chose to be

I never wanted no one else

I tried my best to be somebody you'd be close to

Hand in hand like lovers are supposed to"

So the song and I shall fade into past

romances. Word and deed last forever,

but mortal and super lives do not last.

These final moments, before I sever

life and breath from my mortal shell, never

to harm or save another life, let me

compose myself. To Death! For Harmony!

Although I fled afar and fast,

neither saved his life.

'Alone' the news declares he died,

suicide by knife.

Nothing is left, nothing to lose.

Why continue living?

So, noose in place I fall, hoping

he remains forgiving.

"If I've been hard on you

I never chose to be

I never wanted no one else

I tried my best to be somebody you'd be close to

Hand in hand like lovers are supposed to"
