"Marla! Get down!"

The ebony-haired woman immediately obeys and drops to the ground; her straight inky tresses spill over her face as she kisses the earth.

A shimmering bolt of electrical magic arcs over her head and strikes the vampire standing behind her. The creature hisses loudly as its flesh begins to steam and bubble. A moment later, it retreats deep into the darkened woodland.

"Thanks," Marla sputters as she struggles back to her feet.

Allie gives a little wink and a smirk, her hand still glowing from the magical burst. She flicks her long curly blonde hair and looks disinterested.

"Have you seen Alexis?"

Marla glances around and shakes her head.

"The next time I ask you girls to wait…" Alexis steps out of the shadows, her two magical knives still dripping with black blood, "I'm hoping you'll actually listen. I had two werewolves on me back there!"

Allie gives another smirk. "Oh Lexi, it wasn't anything you couldn't handle."

"That's not the point, Allie!" Alexis shouts as she starts toward the blonde.

"Hey, come on." Marla pleads as she steps between her circle sisters. "We've got a job to do here."

"You're no better, Marla. I don't feel like either of you give a rip about me just because I'm new!"

Allie shrugs and blows an errant hair away from her face. "You're OK. We're all OK, OK? Now see if you can rein in those redheaded emotions and let's get back to work.

Alexis narrows her eyes and unconsciously tugs at the auburn-coloured side braid hanging down over her shoulder.

Marla gently rests a hand on the redhead's arm. "We do care. I promise. You're one of us now."

A twig snaps in the distant gloom and Allie's head snaps up in attention. "Come on, you two. We can all hold hands and sing Kumbaya later. Right now, we've got a Dark Whisper Portal to deal with."

The three women quietly move forward into the gloom. A heavy fog blankets the ground in cotton waves that spin and swirl around its visitors.

"There's something out there," Allie murmurs under her breath.

"Let me take a look," Marla whispers as her eyes glow bright green. The fog and darkness fall away from the brunette's vision as she scans the area immediately around them. "Nope. I don't see anything; but still, I know what you're getting at. I feel it too." The brunette raises one of her enchanted pistols in the air in preparation.

Alexis frowns to herself. "I don't feel any…"

The redhead is cut off as leafy tendrils explode up from the ground and entangle the three magical women.

Marla screams and squeezes the triggers on her twin pistols; bits of shredded foliage and an overwhelming fungal odor fill the air.

A bolt of magical energy grazes Allie's leather attire. "Hey! Watch where you're aiming those pee-shooters! If you ruin my boots I'm gonna…" Mercifully, the blonde is interrupted by a vine wrapping itself around her head.

"The roots, Marla! Aim for the roots!" shouts Alexis.

Marla adjusts her aim accordingly and a high pitched scream erupts from the earth beneath them. The women hit the ground with a thud as the tendrils quickly slither back below the surface.

"Stupid vine beast. Should have known they would have had at least one guarding the grounds." Allie mumbles as she gasps for air.

"Yeah. Some leader you turned out to be," Alexis chides as she leaps to her feet.

Marla has a pained look on her face as she helps Allie up. "Girls… please…"

"You think you can do any better, noobie?" Allie shouts, her face turning slightly red.

Alexis responds by twirling her daggers at high speed and setting her jaw. "I was just fine on my own before I got sucked into this little slumber party."

"Tsk Tsk Tsk."

All three women are startled by the figure standing in front of them.

"Are all circle casters this catty? It's no wonder you're losing the war." A curvaceous woman with ghostly white skin stands with her hands on her hips.

Now it's Marla's turn to narrow her eyes. "What are you doing here, E'vee? The circle will handle the Dark Whisper Portal just fine. We don't need help from your kind!"

E'vee tosses her head back and laughs at the top of her lungs. "Oh sweetheart, I'm not here to offer help from The Movement. I'm here to watch the three of you be destroyed."

"A little presumptuous, don't you think?" says Allie with measured control, her hands beginning to glow a soft electric blue.

The pale woman gives a broad smile in return. A moment later, she transforms into a ball of energy and streaks into the night sky with more loud laughter.

Marla watches the glowing orb hanging high above them and frowns. "Blasted Movers, always thinking they're so superior."

Alexis returns the comforting gesture from earlier as she snakes an arm around the brunette. "Come on. We'll show her."

"Yes we will," nods Allie as she stomps ahead into the gloom.
