A/N: If you've been following my book The Sparrow: A Mafia Novella, you won't be surprised to know, this is the book idea that won the poll. I've decided The Sparrow will have a secondary book and I will incorporate all of my ideas for my secondary mafia story into that.
This story if you haven't read already is a scifi. I will be working on an end of the world book over the next few months and will probably release it once The Sparrow is done. Please leave feedback, this is an iffy project and I need to know how it is received by you, the readers. Thank you so much for reading my stories.
A video of a young woman with short blond hair and a large round stomach popped up on the TV. She was talking but her voice was muted.
"At eight." The newscaster said in a commanding tone.
"Is this woman really carrying the child of an alien from Andromeda? A society she claims exists right here, in our own Milky Way Galaxy."
The screen flashed to a woman with dark curly hair and sun kissed skin. As she spoke the image on the screen turned back to the pregnant woman.
"Good evening my name is Linda Kelly and tonight, we discuss the possibility of life on other planets. It started as a video gone viral on social media, The first woman to come forward goes by the name of Stella Luna. Since she] came forward, countless others from around the world started coming forth as well." The X-file's song started playing in the background as Linda recited cliche dialogue.
The voice of the pregnant woman came on again and this time you could hear her.
"My name is Stella Luna, I am twenty-six years old and excited to say I am carrying the child of the director of finance for the Andromedan Monarchy." The girl seemed young and nieve, she honestly believed she carried an alien's child.
I rolled my eyes as she continued, my hand felt around the bowl of popcorn between my legs.
The new caster woman feigned concern and interest but inside I knew she was laughing.
"Ms Luna, how do you know your child has an extraterrestrial father?"
"I was asked by the King of Andromeda if I'd volunteer to help carry on their lineage. I agreed after he explained the circumstances for needing such a big favor."
"I see. If you don't mind me asking Ms Luna and please refrain from answering if you feel uncomfortable."
Stella Luna nodded.
"Was your pregnancy conceived in a laboratory or through conventional methods?"
I could tell by the way Linda was staring at the oblivious woman that she was interested in hearing if she knocked some alien boots.
I shoved popcorn into my mouth as I watched in silence.
"You mean did Kir and I have sex?"
The newscaster looked like she would jump out of her skin for a moment, she collected herself and nodded.
"Well yes, without being so blunt." I noticed a little fire in Ms Kelly's cheeks.
Stella nearly squealed with excitement. "No, not at first. Our first child was conceived by Drs. Later on we did, for our second. It was the best experience I have ever had. It was a normal human experience times a million. I felt like every nerve in my body was simultaneously firing off. Nothing weird, their physical parts are the same as ours."
Linda Kelly laughed, "That's quite a description. But in all seriousness, how were you picked and why were paired with a man of such seemingly high importance in his society?"
Ms Kelly shifted in her seat. "And excuse me, I don't mean that in a condescending way. I am interested in understanding their dynamic's and logic a little better."
Luna threw her hand in Linda's direction and shook her head. "Not at all, it is an honor to be interviewed by you."
They exchanged giggles and smiles.
"The Andromedans are very open, they don't hide anything as far as the program goes. I was paired with Kir because our genetics and lifestyles were compatible. There are many differences between our species but the major distinction is that they're physically evolved and we're not. In order to pair people successfully they must test our genetics, this ensures we can reproduce. There are genetic variations that will prevent reproduction, but with treatments and the right doctor a family is possible." Stella stared dreamily into space and I laughed, what a whack job.
"Treatments?" This seemed to pique Linda's interest and she leaned forward in her seat.
"Yes." Luna was pulled back into the present.
"The treatments allow us to reproduce with the Andromedans. We are missing some of their reproductive DNA, among other strands. They simply add their DNA to ours, it repairs what we have and adds the properties we are missing. Overtime it helps the individual receiving it, evolve."
I thought Linda Kelly was going to fall out of her chair, her eyes bulged,
"So let me get this straight, the Andromedans as you call them are giving you their DNA? in return you carry their baby and you get to be more alien?"
Stella laughed and shook her head. "Not exactly. They originally travelled here because their home and society were destroyed by Civil war. The Andromedan population dwindled into the thousands.
They began searching the Milky way for inhabitable planets, they didn't have the resources to travel very far. After decades they stumbled upon earth, it was almost identical to their home. When it was realized that earth was occupied they decided to move on, the king had everything replenished and ordered everyone to leave.
The ships carried them long distances, but they never found a suitable planet for their needs and they didn't have the time to terraform. Eventually people became sick, sanitation wasn't the best and they didn't have access to supplies.
When they reached earth there was barely anyone left, the King decided they should reach out for help. He didn't want to scare the world, so descreetly, people were chosen.
In return they have agreed to clean up our planet, share technology and medical knowledge. They've agreed to give us all treatments to help quicken the evolutionary response in mankind. They're trying to help us reach the next stage of humanity."
From what I heard I was shocked and disgusted, but I still couldn't peel my eyes from the flat screen. My hand fumbled around the bowl but to my dismay, it was empty. I sighed and cast it off to the side.
I listened intently, I knew it wasn't real but it was still an interesting possibility.
"Wow." Linda sat back in her seat and I couldn't tell if she was in disbelief or completely done with this woman's ridiculous story.
"All I can say is wow..." Linda remained quiet for a moment before asking another question.
"I don't mean to be rude but how do you know this "treatment" as you call it, will be the elixir of life and not the kiss of death?
Stella's face got very serious and she looked directly into the camera. "If they had some sinister plan for us, we'd all be toast by now. Don't you think a culture capable of interstellar travel would have the weaponry to take us all out in one shot?"
A moment of reason and horror came over Kelly's face and she nodded.
"We need to remember that once culture has transcended this paradigm there is no longer a need for aggression and hate towards those who are different. Don't get me wrong, they feel just like we do and they have all the same emotions we do, they aren't perfect. But their intelligent enough to recognize hate is fruitless."
"But you claim their civilization was destroyed by Civil War, is that not a product of hate?"
Stella shrugged. "I'm not here to debate the politics of the Andromedan's, I am here to show support and help a fellow humanoid."
I nearly choked, a fellow humanoid, how hilarious. I couldn't believe she actually thought what she was saying was true. I felt bad for her, she was young and obviously didn't know what she was saying.
"Fair enough, you called your partner Kir. I assume you have some sort of personal relationship since you've been intimate?"
Stella became giddy and you could tell she was love struck. "In the beginning it was strictly for the purpose of reproduction. The more I went up and had testing, the more I'd see Kir. The first child was by invitro and then, I guess we got comfortable.. and.. it happened. He would come to every check up for the baby and eventually he worked up the courage to hold my hand, he read holding a human's hand showed support." She laughed, she definitely believed Kir was real and I wondered what sort of man could do this to a poor young woman. I shook my head.
"When I had carried the baby long enough they put her in a tube. Their Dr's hadn't tested a full term pregnancy and considering the size difference they wanted to take extra precaution."
"When you say size difference, you mean they are bigger than us?"
Luna nodded. "Exactly, ever seen a sketch of a Nordic alien? that's the best I can describe them, except they don't all have blonde hair and blue eyes. There are different races similar to ours. They can grow up to 7 ft tall, average height is '6 6" for men and '6 4" for women."
"Interesting, Do you know about how many of them are left and where they think they will settle down?" Kelly seemed like she was nearing her threshold of patience with this woman.
"They haven't said if they're coming or going but Kir has promised to take me and raise our child as a family." Stella beamed.
"The World Governments have known about them but they won't disclose to the people, they've been receiving technology in exchange for resources. This has been going on for a few decades now. I am coming forward because I'm tired of seeing Kir so little and because it's time people knew the truth."
Linda seemed to internally roll her eyes, she smiled. "Well there you have it folks." She turned back to Stella.
"Is there anything else you'd like to say before we finish?"
"I would like to tell my fellow human not to fear them, they don't mean us any harm. They need our help and are willing to help us in return. Give them a chance, their presence will be known soon." Stella was staring straight into the camera with a smile across her face.
I think she believed every word she said, I felt bad for her.
"I'm Linda Kelly and thank you for tuning in to News 7." The Tv cut to commercial.
"Still watching that garbage?" My mother said as she walked through the living room.
I jumped. "Ma don't sneak up on me like that."
"I've been down here for ten minutes trying to figure out dinner." She started picking up the room almost instinctively.
"I'll get it." I got up off the couch and picked up everything that was mine and put it in the corner.
"Can you believe that shit?"
"Don't curse Vega and no, I can't believe that shit as you put it." She cracked a smile.
I shrugged. "Deal Gloria, I won't curse."
She frowned and I laughed. My mom was an amazing woman, a hard worker and fabulous parent. My father died when I was five, she was all I had.
"Any luck finding a job?" My mom stacked the magazines underneath the coffee table.
"Yes, I'm waiting for a callback."
Gloria got up off the floor. " $20,000 on your education in loans and you can't even get a call back."
"I guess there isn't much need for elementary school teachers." I had always wanted to be a teacher, I loved kids. Now I was capable and couldn't find a job, it was a joke.
I was twenty-five, unemployed, lived at home with my mom and was in debt. To top it off I was single, it seemed nothing was in my favor for the past year.
My mom got up and went back to the kitchen, moments later she came back and threw a newspaper in my lap.
"Here, I picked this up from the grocery store." She unraveling the vaccuum cord.
"Thanks Ma." I started searching for the job ads.
Same as always, sanitation, janitor. I sighed, the only drawback of living in a small city was the availability for work.
I scanned through, finding nothing interesting but a customer service job. I reached the last page and almost gave up when the ads began repeating.
"Wanted: Elementary level teaching position at government facility."
I jumped off the couch and let out a scream.
"Oh my god mom!"
Poor Gloria nearly fell over.
"What happened?"
"A job, working in a government building as a teacher." I was jumping up and down at this point since nothing even remotely in my field ever popped up.
"Well call, Email, whatever you have to do. This could be your first real teaching experience."
I smiled and ran over to hug her tightly. "Thanks mom."
She laughed and patted my back. "For what my baby?"
"For believing in me, supporting me and most of all bringing home this paper."
