What Kept Us

Stillframe chagrin -

would you let me in?

Four years have pushed us as far as we've gone

and I've wondered dearly how you've been.

My palm where you placed a diamond in the rough,

the skin is wearing raw and thin;

my heartstrings gnarled, twisted in.

"...Remember when...?"

Your words- what specifically,

locked inside a music box-

whence forth had they escaped from me?

Childish naivety

feeds me candy in my waking dreams

of what could have should have came to be.

Our laughter eternal, eyes pristine

Framed with two dates and a dash etched in-between

We never imagined -

Come now, how could we have imagined?

that

hands

came

apart

so

easily.
