Lieutenant Nightshade, Maris. Journal entry 001. Earth date May 17, 2778

Welp, today I made lieutenant. Of course, nowadays there isn't too much fuss about it. What with the fleet getting downsized by the year and less and less spent on retaining what we have left, all I really got in terms of ceremony was a short, very official letter (written on real paper!) on the last courier from Earth, but I'm still pretty excited about it. Here, I've, um, got it somewhere around here... got it! Wait, no, that's something else... Wow am I glad to be moving to a room on a planet for a while. These ship rooms are always so crampt, and somehow accumulate mess faster than anywhere else. I don't know, I'll have to fold down the bed later and take a look. Anyway, I can't find the letter, but I'll do my best to tell you what it said. Ahem:

You have, through impressive and repeated demonstrations of skill and valour, (Yeah right. I've never once been in a real situation where valour was tested) been selected to be promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade. You are to immediately seek passage to the City of Isaac on Belmikov for assignment.

This is an official document and not to be copied or destroyed. It is intended for its recipient only, and any tampering with or prematurely opening it is an offence to be investigated by the Intercolonial Military Agency for Criminal Justice. Signed -Trevor Dean-

And yes, I have the fine print memorized... What? I re-read it a bunch.

Anyway, I'm going to be waiting a while before I see the inside of another ship, and I'm so used to being scheduled I kind of forget what to do planetside. so I was wondering what to do with my extra time. While I'm thinking about it, I'm going to start keeping logs, since I got a desktop camera as a present a while back, and in Isaac, if anything I've heard about it is true, I'll be dying for something to ease my boredom. Who knows? It might even catch on as a habit. This is Lieutenant Maris Nightshade signing off.
