A Promise Fulfilled

Sunlight glows through leaves spring fresh, painting an improbable lime green canopy whilst, tipping each branch, horse chestnut thrusts pinked candelabra to spear the cobalt sky. Beneath their dappled shade late bluebells sweeten the air; cut with the sudden sharpness of trampled wild garlic and flecked with shy strawberry blossom, while blackbird threads his psalm amongst cool greenery.

Roadside verges dance, knee high, with doilies of pale cow parsley, embroidered with cerise campian and golden buttercup. Beyond, hawthorn hedges droop 'neath a creamy abundance of may blossom . . . winter snowdrifts amid summer's verdure.

Summer, so long in promise, has arrived.
