It started to rain just as Chance pulled the car into the parking area of the Kennebunk Inn with a wonderful view of the stormy Atlantic Ocean. He looked at Peggy sitting next to him in the passenger's seat.
"I've been given a second chance to explore love," she said. "I have a flutter in my heart."
"I had no idea I'd find it a second time," Chance admitted.
"I need a relationship founded on trust, honesty and a willingness to let go of the past, Chance," she told him. "I know there will be bumps along the way but I want to be able to move ahead knowing that tomorrow will be better."
"I didn't like you in the beginning," Chance blurted out.
"What?" She asked with confusion.
"Back at St. Joe's," he clarified.
"Oh," she said with understanding. "Yeah, I was a real high and mighty bitch back then," she laughed. "Even my own mother didn't like me!"
"But I can't fight my own heart now," he said. "You're different."
"When your whole identity gets ripped from you, you tend to see the world differently," Peggy explained. "I'd like to think that this is the real me and everything before was the fake me. I got lost in the illusion that was Lonny and in doing so I lost myself."
"But you found yourself?" Chance asked.
"I've discovered the hidden part of me that I suppressed from the first day I met Lonny," Peggy answered. "I have feelings that I never experienced with Lonny, like humility and regret and compassion and thoughtfulness and affection and appreciation and passion. It's a change I needed to be able to live my life sensibly again. Sometimes being taken down a peg offers you a whole new insight on life."
She glanced at him and saw that he was staring at her.
"What?" She asked nervously.
"You are adorable," he replied with a smile.
"You're sweet," she blushed.
They checked in to the inn and once they got to their rustic room, Chance went out to get some Chinese takeout for dinner. He also picked up some bubble bath and candles! When he returned, he organized the food and then they went out onto the balcony fully dressed and wrapped in blankets to eat the meal while watching the stormy ocean.
"How'd you get the name Chance?" Peggy asked out of curiosity. She had assumed it was a nickname but she saw it on his credit card when he was paying the Inn bill.
"I was my mother's last chance," he explained. "She suffered through several miscarriages. She was forty with two kids that were nearly twenty. She wanted to try once more even at that age and sure enough she got pregnant with me. She said the name fit."
"I don't want another kid at forty, Chance," Peggy told him.
"You're my last chance," he said. "Not another baby."
"I feel like I've been given a second chance to do it right," Peggy said.
When they were done with the food, they stepped back into the warm room. Chance went into the bathroom and ran the bath, filling it with the bubble bath, lighting the candles and breaking out a bottle of champagne he had bought along with a couple of plastic glasses.
"What are you doing in there?" Peggy called through the open door when she heard the various noises.
" How 'bout a romantic bubble bath?" Chance proposed.
Peggy laughed as she stepped inside the door and saw the set up. "You just want to see me naked," she groused good-naturedly.
"Of course," Chance smiled.
Peggy put her thumb to her mouth and chewed on it for a moment. "No man except for Lonny's seen me naked," she realized as she stared at the bubbles popping on the water surface. But she found herself excited by the idea, knowing she was finally going to take the long awaited next step in the relationship.
"You go first," she requested as she picked up the champagne bottle and began to open it.
Chance didn't have a problem with that, quite willing to take a chance with Peggy after all this time. He effortlessly stripped out of his New England College sweatshirt and jersey, his jeans and underclothing and he stepped naked into the tub as a wide eyed Peggy watched him slither into the suds.
"I feel sixteen again," she admitted as she filled the two plastic glasses with the champagne.
"The water's great," Chance smirked. "Come on in, join me."
She handed him one of the glasses and put hers on the side of the tub, freeing her hands to peel out of her sweater and thick wool slacks to leave herself in her bra and panties. She sucked in her breath, released her bra and placed it on the toilet tank and then she cautiously slithered out of her panties before placing them with the bra and stepping into the tub, sitting opposite Chance, facing him.
"This feels oddly good," Peggy realized. "In fact, it's amazing!"
"I agree," Chance smiled, watching as she pulled her hair up on her head and tied it with a ribbon from the champagne bottle "God, you look incredibly sexy!" Chance said.
"It's wonderful knowing you did this for me," she said.
"Our own little world," Chance said, staring at her across the tub with affection.
"Can we cuddle?" She asked, turning herself around and sliding her back against his front under the bubbly water.
"I've forgotten about everything I've ever known being here with you like this," Chance confessed
"Seeing all the bubbles made me excited but nervous," Peggy told him as she laid her head against his chest. "It's pretty amazing to be doing this and it makes me wonder what other romantic ideas you might come up with."
"Just one for now," Chance whispered as he lifted her up so she was sitting in his lap, his erection rubbing against her ass crack.
"My second chance," Peggy whispered as his kissed her shoulder.
