Author's Note: My mom and my little sister have been getting into a lot of arguments lately about doing homework, although I should say about not doing it. Anyway, I absolutely hate arguments when I'm actively arguing with someone(s) but I especially hate them when I'm not a part of them. I live in a small house with four other people so there's not very many places to go where you can't hear one another. I was trying to do my own homework earlier today when they started fighting and I since I couldn't focus on my homework anymore, I tried to focus on something else and the beginning of this poem popped into my head. After the fighting stopped, I finished it and typed it up. I'm sorry for the extremely long author's note but hope you like my poem anyway. Constructive criticism would be lovely. Well, any response would be lovely really so please review. Thanks!

Love and well wishes,

Zosia Rose

It starts with something small, something that would be insignificant at any other time.

Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

Smiles turn to frowns turn to scowls.

Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

The volume rises, the decibel level growing exponentially.

Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

I cover my ears with my hands, a futile attempt to block it out.

Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

Shouted accusations, otherwise facts blown totally out of proportion.

Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

It will never end it seems, lasting an eternity.

Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

A lull appears, tricking me into thinking it's over, I hesitantly remove my hands.

Maybe! Maybe! Maybe!

No such luck, it starts again, and they fly back to their reluctant place.

Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

It has nothing to do with me yet there's no escape.

Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

Focus on something else, anything else, breathe.

Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

The stubborn silence takes over, finally deciding that the noise has replaced it for long enough.

Maybe! Maybe! Maybe!

My hands fall to my lap, my chest heaves with each deep inhale and exhale, my eyes open bit by bit.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I feel relief, it is done, it is finished.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

The issue is not entirely resolved, and it will explode again into disaster soon, but for now quiet reigns.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

And I am grateful.
