Hey guys! This story idea just popped into my head randomly. It's kind of cliché but ill leave that up to you guys to determine. I just thought it was super cute and romantic so I decided to write it.
Disclaimer: This is not based on personal experiences. (obviously cuz I'm 14)
I woke up to the sound of rain falling. I turned on my side and saw a glimpse of the water rivulets dripping down the window. I groaned when I realized that my plans would have to be either cancelled or changed. I hoped it would be the latter. My boyfriend of three years, Jake, had promised to take me out on a picnic this afternoon. I groaned again and rolled back over. I had meant to get back up but the sound of the drizzling rain lulled me back to sleep.
I awoke again what seemed like 5 minutes late but in actuality was a couple of hours later. I was about to get out of bed when I heard something. Or rather the absence of something. Suddenly charged with a burst of energy I jumped out of bed and raced towards the window. I pulled the curtains away and was happily surprised to see that my assumptions were correct. It wasn't raining anymore! I squealed in excitement.
The ground was still wet but the sun was shining so I was sure it would dry up pretty soon. Jake and I would get to have our picnic after all!
I heard my phone buzz so I walked back to my bed. When I turned it on I saw that I had a couple of missed messages from Jake. I read them and was surprised at what they contained.
Jake: Hey Emma!
Jake: I have a surprise for you!
Jake: Meet me at the end of the rainbow.
I was extremely confused. There wasn't any rainbow. I had literally just checked a couple of seconds ago and the sky was perfectly clear.
Emma: What rainbow?
Jake: Look outside. :)
Still confused, I walked back towards the window. I pulled the curtain back again and was amazed at what I saw. It was a rainbow just like Jake had said! It was sparkling and magical and utterly beautiful. (A/N I know this isn't possible but I'm just going to go with it) I was now doubly excited. I had planned on it being just a regular picnic, but apparently Jake had a surprise up his sleeve. And Jake's surprises weren't regular surprises. They were on a whole different level.
Emma: I'll be there. Can't wait!
Filled with excitement and eagerness, I sped about my room, getting ready. I took a lightning fast shower and spent some time picking out the perfect outfit. In the end I decided on a denim skirt, a white fitted t-shirt, a green jacket, and plain red ballet flats. Cute but comfortable. I then applied minimal makeup and fashioned my hair into a cute up-do. Lastly, I grabbed my purse and ran out the door.
I didn't know how much time it would take to get to the other side of the rainbow, but it didn't look that far away. I decided to get in my car and drive there in case it took longer than expected.
It turns out that getting to the end of the rainbow is a lot harder than expected. Every time I seem to be close it suddenly changes position. I'm super frustrated but I'm motivated by the prospect of seeing Jake. Finally, after an hour and multiple U-turns I reach it. I park my car on the edge of the large field and get out.
I don't see Jake but the sight before me is breathtaking and brings tears to me eyes. Jake lit candles and placed them all over the meadow. As I walk closer I see that in the very center of the meadow there is a checkered blanket with a picnic basket- which I assume is full of food- on it. I can't believe he did this all for me!
Suddenly arms wrap around my waist and lift me into the air. I freeze, scared of who it could be. The words whispered into my ear quell my fears.
"Hey darling", he whispers into my ear.
I twist around in his arms and point a finger at him accusingly.
"You scared me Jake!" I exclaim.
He chuckles softly, his mouth forming a lopsided grin.
"Sorry. It was fun though."
He then carries me to the center of the field and places me down gently.
"I am capable of walking", I say, slightly annoyed but mostly just tingly from the feeling of his hands on me.
"I know", he says. "I just like having you in my arms." I blush.
We then proceed to eat our picnic lunch. He's made a feast! There's everything from sub sandwiches to fudge brownies. I'm surprised that it all fit in that one basket. Seeing it all laid out makes me feel a little dizzy. I didn't know how we were supposed to eat all of it.
"Jake?" I ask. "Why did you get so much food? I mean, it's delicious, but I doubt I'll be able to finish it."
"Only the best for my girl", he replies with a wink.
"Uh huh", I say, while rolling my eyes. "I bet you just wanted an excuse to buy a bunch of food."
Jake puts a hand to his heart, acting as if he is wounded. "Do you really think so low of me?" he asks, pretending to be offended.
I giggle at his theatrics and after a second Jake joins me.
After about half an hour I'm stuffed. I can tell Jake is too, which isn't surprising because he ate three times as much food as me. We pack up the food an stack it neatly inside the basket. We then fold up the blanket and put both of them under a tree.
Jake takes me hand and leads me over to a spot, positioning me so that my back is to the rainbow. His expression then turns serious.
"Emma I want to ask you something."
He then reaches into his pocket and pulls out a box. Is this going where I think it's going?
He then gets on one knee. Oh yah, it definitely is.
He opens the box to reveal a beautiful ring that sparkles when it catches the light. He reaches out to grasp my hand and begins to speak.
"Emma Marie Robinson, I love you more than there are stars in the sky and more greatly than you can imagine. I can't imagine living my life without you. I want you to be my yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Will you make me the happiest man alive and do me the great honor of marrying me?"
I am speechless. That was the most romantic proposal I could ever ask for. His tone is endearing and his eyes are smoldering. How could I ever say no to him? He's the love of my life. I finally find my voice.
"Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!" I exclaim.
He breaks into an exultant grin and scoops me up into his arms, twirling me around. I can't help but crow in joy.
He sets me down, looks me deep in the eyes, and say the three words that make my heart flutter. "I love you."
I smile. "I love you too."
He then pulls me towards him and kisses me passionately. As the kiss continues my need for him grows. I run my hands through his gorgeous hair and pull him closer. He sighs in pleasure and picks me up again. I wrap my legs around him and we are pressed tightly against each other, our bodies fitting together perfectly.
He is the one that finally breaks the kiss. When he pulls away I laugh. "You look like you have bedhead", I tease.
"So do you", he retorts. We both laugh in synchronization.
"Turn around", he says.
I draw my eyebrows together at his random request. He merely smiles angelically. I turn around hesitantly and my jaw falls open.
I see why he positioned us so carefully before. I'm at the end of the rainbow. That is the sweetest thing ever.
Instead of finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, I found my happily ever after.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.
And that's it! I'm going to be the first to admit that the writing is really crappy. Sorry if it seemed kind of rushed but I didn't have a lot of time to edit it. I'll probably tweak it and then repost it later. After reading it I realized that it's kind of cheesy but who cares. I love it just the way it is. I'm sorry if the writing isn't that great, I'm still an amateur writer. I hoped you guys enjoyed! Bye!
