The Burning Tree

Running free

I go to the burning tree

Where I use to swing

From limb and leaf

Now ashes circle down

I hear you cry

My tree,

The one

Who cradled me

And with the wind

Rushing through your vibrant leaves

You once sang of spring

Now you scream

A cry of desperation

A cry for the tears of the sky

To douse the fire-stealing away your life

Burning its way

to your precious,

humming heart

Leaving a trail of glowing amber bark

The burning snake of fire

Eagerly consumes twig and leaf

Swirling around

rapidly making its way

to the mighty crown

Ashes fall as

I hear the forest scream.

Desolation once again

never ends.
