Countless crowded boats

tread into the horizon

of a future uncertain.

Bodies tethered,

indebted to labour,

born into circumstances

long beyond their control.

The slave trade nouveau

it progresses onwards,

rocking turbulently

over unsteady waters

without a lifeboat in reach.

A million academics

in a suffocating thinktank

scratching their heads

as to how to make bank.

Lost at sea,

waiting only for the chance

to root their feet on solid ground.
