Chapter 7: The Infamous Kaleb
"You don't understand. And I can't explain."
"I heard that he's been to jail." One girl said, making me feel annoyed.
"That's so hot! But, didn't you hear this? He was with her." A different girl said, pointing at me.
The lunch room was even busier because of Kaleb. He's the new and fresh meat everyone has to get their dirty hands on, it's disgusting. It's even more disgusting because I knew him. He used to be my entire world, the ground that I walked on. Then he crushed that ground, and me. I turned into a sad little girl, then my mom lifted up my chin. It didn't last very long because the cancer killed her, so I was left to fend for myself.
Grabbing my lunch, I tried to ignore the stares people were giving me.
News travels fast within the school walls, so they probably heard what happened between me and him. It didn't bother me much, considering the fact that it has happened before. I walked outside, avoiding all the people.
Walking up the hill, I made it to my tree. Even when I was outside, people were still staring and talking about me. Ridiculous.
"Hey!" I heard, then looking up from my lunch.
Lily was running towards me, her pigtails bouncing up and down. When she reached me, she sat down next to me.
"How have you been?" She asked, catching her breath.
"Could be better." I replied, taking a small bite out of my pizza.
I chewed it slowly, worried I wasn't going to be able to swallow it. Her eyes lit up when I swallowed and started stuffing my face with it. Her smile was wide as she watched me, and I raised my eyebrow at her.
"What?" I asked with my mouth full, not even bothering to be lady like.
"You're eating again." I rolled my eyes and set the crust down.
"Doesn't mean I'll be able to keep it down," I scoffed. "It didn't last time, so don't jinx it."
She nodded her head and looked up at the sky. It was silent again and I set my food aside, already feeling a bit sick.
"So, Kaleb's back." Lily sent me a look.
"Does it look like I care?" A wild look in my eyes appeared as I got up, moving away from her.
She looked at me sympathetically, and that's when I sighed. I didn't care that he was back, nor did I want him back in the first place. It was all bullshit. He should have never moved back here. More like, I shouldn't have said his name at all.
"What's new? Heard he's been in jail. Also that I'm a whore because I was with him all freshman and sophomore year of high school, maybe halfway through junior." I exclaimed, picking up my lunch and throwing it in the bin.
Swinging my backpack around my shoulders, I adjusted myself.
"You aren't a whore, we've been over this."
"No one is going to believe me, Lily," I sighed. "It was nice talking to you again, but I have to go."
I ignored her again this week. Time seemed to be going by way too fast, and it started to bother me. I'm confused and scared. Lily is still my friend, but we've been so caught up in other matters that we don't hang out anymore. With that, I've been caring a bit too much about grey eyes.
I don't know him. I don't care about him. I need to stop pretending and letting him break down my walls. I built them for a reason, and it's time to keep them there. Grey eyes is just a guy, a stupid one. He's with the popular people and thinks he can get in my pants. That's all he cares about.
I don't need to deal with heartbreak again.
I was walking home today because I missed my bus. The bus left early today because the rain was getting pretty bad. We got held back in class, and I missed it by a couple minutes.
It was pouring and the only thing I had to keep me warm was my hoodie.
The water was seeping through my hoodie, leaving me to get soaked. I shivered, but kept walking as fast as I could.
"Reese!" I could barely here who called my name, but I did. I turned around, looking at him.
"Kaleb?" I questioned in almost the same tone as yesterday.
His eyebrows furrowed, but he nodded. Walking towards me, his eyes became serious. My eyebrow raised, and I went to back away.
"It's good to finally see you after all these years." He said, smirking at me.
My eyes widened in fear as he leaned in. I pushed him away without a second thought, not knowing that would make him angry.
"It's good? You can't be fucking serious with me right now." I exclaimed through gritted teeth, showing that I was irritated. "You broke me, Kaleb. How can you possibly think I'd come running back to you?"
He backhanded my face, making me fall down on the pavement. I was surrounded by the chilly weather, it enveloping me in a hug.
"After all these years, I've always knew you were a good for nothing –
"I wouldn't finish that sentence." A low, gruff voice had said.
Grey eyes was standing behind him, anger was evident on his face. He looked beyond pissed, and I'd say that would be an understatement.
Kaleb turned around, only to laugh in his face.
All of our voices were watered down, the rain was washing it away so it was hard to hear what they were saying.
"Or what, pretty boy? I'm guessing she's your new play toy, eh?" He questioned, grey eyes was slowly losing control of himself. Even in the rain I could see his knuckles turning white. "She wasn't even good for the sex –
Grey eyes lost it as soon as he said it.
He threw a punch in his face, knocking him to the ground. Fists were flying and Kaleb was trying to protect himself. Shielding himself from grey eyes punch, he shot out his leg to knock him off his feet. Grey eyes lost his balance, leaving Kaleb to have the advantage. He got himself off the ground and punched him in the face, fresh blood oozing out his knuckles.
He proceeded to beat the living shit out of him before I stepped in.
"Stop it! You're going to kill him!" I screamed, but Kaleb didn't hear me. He only glanced my way, and I could see he was ready to hurt me. I saw the untamed look in his eyes, and I quickly backed away. I was scared something was going to go wrong, and he was really going to beat me.
The memory of those years ago hit me again, but it faded away quickly. I didn't want to remember what happened between us. Not now, not ever.
Grey eyes bolted up from the pavement, pushing me carefully so I was behind him. I stood helplessly behind him as he protected me from Kaleb's attacks. He didn't care if he got hit, he was taking every punch in as if it was his strength.
There were more punches to the face, and sometimes kicks to knock each other off their feet. Grey eyes wasn't going to back down from him.
His knuckles were now a crimson color, his eyes showed frustration because he wasn't backing off. It didn't take much longer for Kaleb to surrender, not even bothering to say sorry for he did.
Grey eyes held him by the collar of his now torn up shirt, fury was held in his eyes. His eyes seemed to have gone darker, and they made him look deadly.
"If you ever go near her again, I'll fucking kill you." His eyes were even wilder as he threw Kaleb to the ground.
"Yeah? Fuck you, pretty boy. She isn't worth shit anyway." He grunted, getting up off the ground and stumbling off.
I watched him walk away, my cold breath hitting the atmosphere. Grey eyes watched him as well, his eyes were hard. He looked extremely protective, and looked as though he'd protect anything.
Stop thinking these things, Reese. He doesn't care about you, I scolded myself in my head.
Then he looked over at me, his eyes turned darker at the sight of me. Without warning, he grabbed my hand and we headed off in another direction.
"You didn't have to do this, really." My features softened as he handed me his clothes.
"It's the least I can do. Go change and meet me out here." He ordered, making me blush.
Nodding my head, I walked down the narrow hallway of his house. He practically dragged me here, and at one point he had to carry me because I was getting tired. I was still tired now, even as I tried taking off my clothes. I even tried ripping them off, but it was as if they were glued to my body.
I sighed in irritation as I sat there in the bathroom.
Just the thought of asking him to help me made me face turn red. I didn't exactly have a choice considering I didn't want to ruin my clothes. Shaking my head, I exited the bathroom and went down the hall again.
What's worse was that I still didn't know his name, so I didn't know what to call him.
I've been calling him grey eyes in my head this entire time, so maybe I could do that. I wouldn't want things to be awkward. I bit my lip as I looked around the house for him. My search was over as I bumped into something hard.
It was warm and soft, making me sigh in content. I opened my eyes to be staring at a smirking grey eyes.
"Oh shit," I exclaimed, my face turning cherry red again. "Um…I have to ask you something."
Still smirking, he gestured for me to ask. His eyes were his regular soft grey color, the color that I love so much.
"I was – uh – wondering if you could help me…uh…" I gulped, my toes curling in my soaked shoes. "Take off my clothes?" I squeaked out the rest fast, trying to avoid his gaze.
His eyes widened, but it didn't take long for them to darken. It was the exact color for when he was fighting Kaleb, so I felt slightly uncomfortable. However, the darkness reminded me of how it happened to Kaleb. I didn't want to get into detail with my head, so I just asked him.
"You wouldn't mind, would you? I don't mean to bother –
"It isn't a bother." He noticed of my uneasiness, and that's when he smirked again.
He gestured for me to follow him, and we went into the bathroom together. Thankfully, the bathroom was big enough for us both to move around in so I wasn't confined. Turning to me, he patted on the counter.
I went over to him and tried to jump up on it. I failed the first time around and tried it again. He bit his lip as he watched me, making me turn even redder.
Deciding that was enough torture, his hands went around my waist and he lifted me up on the counter. He couldn't remove the grin off his face as he looked at me
"Arms up," He stated, and I lifted my arms. His hands worked at the end of my soaked T-shirt, slowly peeling it off my body. He got it up and over my head, so my entire upper half was exposed.
"Off the counter." He ordered again, and I did just that.
I watched him as he fumbled with the button of my jeans. Once he undid them, he also began to peel them off. I stepped out of the jeans, leaving me completely exposed. There was no point in hiding, because he has already seen the female anatomy, but I couldn't help it. I covered my upper half with one hand, and my other hand covered my stomach.
"No need to be ashamed of your body, Reese." I gulped when he said my name, and he left the bathroom without another word.
It left me shocked as I stood there dumbfounded. I was expecting him to do something to me, but he was actually being a gentlemen. He didn't do anything, although I could see something in his eyes, but I wasn't sure exactly what it was.
I shrugged and proceeded to take off the rest of my clothes, then put of his. This was going to be one long weekend, considering the storm is going to leave it to the point where no one can go anywhere. Once I was done, I exited the bathroom again and walked down the hall.
I saw him on the couch, his chest out for full display. I pried my perverted eyes away from his abs and looked at the TV. Following his gaze, the weather channel said there was a storm heading this way. It also said that everyone must stay indoors for the next couple of days until further notice.
As soon as that was said, he glanced over at me. His stupid grin was plastered on his face, leaving me to raise my eyebrow at him.
"Looks like you're going to be stuck with me, Reese."
His smirk widened, and that's when I thought my eyes were going to pop out of there sockets. I was going to be stuck with grey eyes. For possibly a week.
This couldn't be happening.
(a/n) I decided to post this chapter today, though, I wanted to wait a little bit until I was done to a certain point. But anyways, hope you enjoy as always! :)
