Two cardboard cups rest on the table

One filled with coffee, the other with tea

And two girls are laughing

As the cups are cooling down

Two warm cups set down on the wooden surface

Both filled with coffee: one rocky road, one mocha

And both girls are quiet

Wrapping their hands around the cups

Two icy drinks are passed over the counter

A green tea and a chai

And now they're both crying

Longing for the easier days now gone

"Medium dark roast, please."

She drinks it black

And reads the paper, alone

Wishing there was another drink on the table
