Pain stabbed through my bare foot, and I cried out, falling onto the floor. My foot throbbed and I clutched at it, expecting blood. Luckily, the wound appeared not to have broken the surface.

I forced my eyes back open, searching for the perpetrator. Was it a staple from my sister's crafting? A pushpin from my brother's schoolwork? Not a needle, I prayed.

Yet my eyes laid upon something far more painful and formidable than anything my mortal mind could've imagined. I looked heavenward, cursing my brother for his messiness.
