Covenant for Life

Straight into the rain of my longing
You come riding as the knight of my dreams,
gliding down from Your saddle of storm-clouds,
to cover me in whisperings of never-ending love.

Your hand, pierced, held out –
shy, cold, unworthy mine.

How can I ever grasp why
Your heart is consumed with love for me, why
Your courting knows no bounds, why
I may live for that day that is promised me
in the starry sea of Your eyes:

Hand in hand
You will lead me to the altar,
the King the beggar Girl,
the Lord His bride.

The road is long –
in the midst of my longing
Your kiss is burning on my brow,
Your gaze is burning in my heart:
Strength, for I am Yours and
You are mine.
