There Was a Girl

There was a little girl,
and she had pretty, blonde hair
that shined in the sun
when she played with her friends.
And her parents were happy,
and the laughed all the time.
And she got good grades,
and never got in trouble.

There was a young girl,
with pretty, blonde hair
that shined in the sun
when she swam in the river.
And her parents got along,
and the smiled sometimes.
And she got good enough grades,
and never got in trouble.

There was a teenage girl,
with dyed black hair
that didn't shine in the sun,
because she sat inside alone.
And her parents fought a lot,
and they didn't smile anymore.
And her grades didn't matter,
and she skipped a lot of classes.
And her dog died that summer,
after she got caught
with a cigarette between her lips.

There was a young lady,
with half black, half blonde hair.
And she didn't look healthy.
And her best friend took too many pills.
And her parents didn't love each other,
and she fought with them a lot.
And she dropped out of school,
after her boyfriend cheated on her.
And she spent her money on smokes,
to cover up the smell of alcohol,
that always hung on her breath
from the parties she went to,
to get away.

There was a woman,
who once had pretty, blonde hair
that shined in the sun-
but it doesn't shine in the dark.
While she lays in her box,
in the ground,
after she slit her wrists
in the wrong direction.
And no one found her,
until the blood covered the bathroom floor.
And no body missed her,
because nobody knew-
Because everyone left her alone.
