Time Forgets Everything But

Time forgets everything but
the memories of a past
long gone,
in another place,
in another time,
in another life.

Memories of the past
longing to be
recaptured just to be seen again,
revisited just to be heard again,
relived just to be felt again.

They say reality is what is present,
and what was
whether good or bad,
joy or sorrow,
bliss or pain,
is eventually forgotten...
buried,
blown away,
forever gone,
just like the sands of time.

Perhaps this is so...
as time heals all wounds
and everything in life
eventually falls into place.
The past seems to matter no more
and fate would smile and say
that all is well, all is well.

But what of the images
that conjure to mind
every now and then?
Hazy or crystal clear,
they are there.
Pictures recaptured,
images paused,
forever etched,
and remembered every now and then
as time goes by.

Time forgets everything but
the memories of a past
long gone...
we think of all that was
in another place,
in another time,
in another life,
and smile wistfully...
If only we could go back,
if only the heavens allowed
such a possibility.

But since life does not
work out that way,
we have the memories long gone
to hold unto and keep close
forever ours alone
never to be stolen...
for when the mind wanders
and the heart yearns
for something truly meaningful,
it is this priceless gift
of memories
that brings us home.
