Dear Sir/Madam,

This is to inform you that as of July 1st, 1989, we will no longer be selling vinyl records at any of our store locations. This applies to LP's 7 inch, and 12 inch singles.

As I am sure you are well aware, the major labels have been pushing hard on the compact disc format. Record sales have gone down drastically, in the last five years. As of 1988, they represented less than 10% of all music units sold. And this year, they are forecast to slip even further.

Please do not send us back your unsold records. You may donate them to charity, sell them to a local record collector's store, give them away, or even trash them.

There are many die hard "Vinylphiles" who are very upset about the decline of the record. Therefore, you may expect a few customers becoming very irate—possibly even violent—over our elimination of records. Please be prepared for this.

At this time, we have no intention of changing our store name to reflect the new "record-less" situation.

Should you have any questions, you may call me at 555/555-SPIN, Extension 10.

Your cooperation in this matter will be deeply appreciated.

Regards,

Thomas Yesman
