Youthful eyes that are full of innocence stare up,

exploring the new world around her,

as she is removed from her box and held by a child

for the very first time

From that instant, she is dedicated to that child,

and that child alone

Though she never speaks, she is the best listener of all,

Through thick and thin, happy and sad,

she must be there whenever she is needed

A faithful soldier, always at the ready

to fight every war,

whether it's mom and dad's divorce,

a fight with a sibling,

or a friendship that ended in tears,

she is prepared for everything

But through the years,

through the laughter,

and the tears,

she sees her child beginning to change

Dress up time becomes make-up time,

time to play becomes time to go on a date

And as she sits there on the bed, watching

with the same innocent eyes,

She realizes that the times where she was needed are now gone

But still she stands,

A faithful soldier, always at the ready

Awaiting a day where she might once again be

A shoulder to cry on,

A friend who would always make her smile,

Someone her child could rely on

The day arrives where she is removed from the room she grew up in,

Placed in a box,

And marched up the stairs

Into the attic

She is not needed any longer

Yet, even still, she waits

A faithful soldier, always at the ready

For when her child,

Who is no longer a child

Might need her once more

A pair of old eyes, filled with childhood innocence, stare up

At the new young face who greeted her

As she was removed from her box and held by a child

Once again
