The ice had

released its grip on the necks and stems of dandelions

ebbed its flow away from the dirt puddles

revealed gaping potholes in the road

I met you when it was so wet out it felt like rain

the sun competed for spotlight although

the clouds spectated lazily above the horizon

The year that was with you

They said the winter would be long

and to hold on tight

I encased your flannel with sweat and heat

Like campfire

the one I reserved for us

The year that was

passing with each night we spent

making shadow puppets

stand tall against each other

were just as breathless as we

say I love you again like we meant it

Say goodnight knowing

the sun will still rise
